Whats the last record you bought?

I started to doublecheck for duplicates, but then thought, “What the hell?” I’m always up for a decent compilation, although I try to keep the duplicates below about 50% of what I already have.

But when I auditioned the tracks that Soul Brothers’ “Thunderball” track was when I got real interested.

I’m not a big ska collector - I mean how much of it do you really need? But I was a major James Bond nut in my teenage years (long ago!). As much as the music, the promised sleeve notes sold me. How often have I fallen for that?

So curiosity just got the better of me. Besides, you know, music will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no music. I’m just being prepared. It’s also true that he/she who dies with the biggest record collection wins. Not that I’m going to win (or die?) but I beaver away at it. Something to live for. I’ve also found that when something gets its hooks into me and I start to itch it’s cheaper and faster to just go with it. Scratch that itch!

Readers, its not going well. I think discogs generally is a bit shit these days.

More news as this story develops.

you’re not the only one to say so - simonetti posted something similar but didn’t want to become the voices of “discogs sucks” so he deleted threads and now i’m curious/worried.

Up the fucking Posties!

What’s the Bird Island one?

Lots of dissenting voices on their forums about various issues.

I took delivery of a Romanthony 12, shame it wasn’t the one I ordered. He was very good about it and is going to send what I ordered. This after the paypal transaction went awry, payment left my account, got the receipt Discogs email but the transaction status stuck on Payment Pending but says You’ve Paid. Messy.

It will take a few days for a refund to clear.

The entire user interface from a seller end is a horrendous mess, one accidental click and it cancels the order, when you are looking for a refund option.

Yeah that’s messy. Happened to me a while back too. Been ok since though. Hope you get it sorted. That Romanthony track is a blinder.

i’m currently going through something with a new discogs buyer that feels potentially borderline scammy but i’m not quite sure - i sent two items to brazil via DHL and the buyer is complaining of having to pay full tax on the express shipment and might reject the order and send it back.

on the one hand, the items were cheap (about $10 worth of product, about $30 worth of shipping) - if i’m out the product AND the ship charges, i don’t think i care that much. that’s the cost of doing business.
on the other hand, it all feels overly complicated and i’m trying to understand why someone would work this hard just to get a mere $40 out of a discogs seller. i’ve got my guard up now.

I have to say things are getting a little more complicated for me too.

Ordering outside the UK is prohibitively expensive. There’s postage AND tax on top in most cases and it just isn’t viable anymore. I try and stick to UK sellers where possible, although I generally want M or NM items, so that limits me somewhat. I’ve even been contacted by a couple of overseas sellers to say that they can only use a certain partner to ship items to the UK, which invariably means I end up paying more outside of Discogs. I asked one seller to cancel an order because of this, and miraculously he messaged back shortly after to say there’d be no extra charge. Clearly something going on.

As a seller I’m being contacted more frequently by buyers stating that items haven’t arrived, despite tracking saying otherwise. One guy even said the CCTV in his building had caught someone stealing the item from his apartment block, so could I refund him, and as a seller, I can claim through the courier… No sunshine. That ain’t how it works… well not for me anyway.
