What you going to?

I think Colleen and Tim/Jeremy Gilbert went their separate ways. No idea why. But having to deal with some of the preciousness and intellectual pretentiousness that sometimes surrounded that party would do in anyone’s swede after a while.

Probably having to blow up all those balloons meant that their working relationship just ran out of puff.

Sorry.

Reading between the lines - disagreement about who puts on the records

Guess that’s the rub when there’s many heads involved.

When the loft ran, it was one persons vision and could ebb/flow as and when they chose.

Fast forward and include persons views, decisions, input(or lack of) and the event becomes akin to being in a band, where there’s always one or two people who become jaded, as there’s feeling where they’re the ones carrying the project forward.

I’m all for collaboration, but sometimes it just has to be one person running the shop.

Ha, no doubt.

Who can forget the email that was sent complaining about everyone drinking too much!

Obviously popular, the one above sold out immediately (v. small venue so prob not that hard)

Should be going to Collens “London loft party” in December so will report back. I would rather see her play than Tim lawerence - sorry Tim!

Sounds like it. This was the email from the Tim/Jeremy camp:

Dear Dancer,

Lucky Cloud Sound System will host its autumn party at Rose Lipman on Saturday 21 October, 5:00pm to 1:00am.

To riff on Nina: It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life for us, yeah, we’re feeling good—please don’t let us be misunderstood!

Entry is £20 by invite only. If you’ve received this email directly you’re already on the invite list. If you’ve been forwarded this email you can join the invite list here!

Advance reservations can be made here!

We are also holding back a substantial number of places for sale on the door

For those who have yet to hear, back in January Lucky Cloud Sound System/the London Loft held a team meeting where lots of ideas were expressed.

It soon became clear that there was more than enough energy for us to start to host two contrasting yet complementary Loft-inspired parties, one called Lucky Cloud Sound System, the other the London Loft. We resolved to begin this new dawn, this new day, this new life after we celebrated our 20th anniversary last June.

Lucky Cloud Sound System comprises a group of friends who started to co-host Loft-style parties at the Light in London back in June 2003, the wonderful team of helpers who support what we do, and everyone who has danced with us, including you, dear dancer.

We remain totally dedicated to hosting parties that are inspired by David Mancuso and the Loft, and will be introducing a number of changes in order to deepen our relationship to David’s audio-vision.

For more information about all the above and more please visit: https://www.luckycloudsoundsystem.com/ (it remains a work in progress but is just about ready to visit!).

We can’t wait to have you all join us on Saturday 21 October!

Love saves the day!

Made it one of the dos at the Light when Mancuso played and it was amazing. Also had a few fun nights at the All Our Friends nights, different again but with that same energy. Saying that, they do take the whole thing very seriously and, yeah can see that leading to inevitable differences after a while.

I went to them all for the first three or four years - including going over to Norway for one - and I had some brilliant times including spending good times with David talking bollocks and drinking whisky/swapping records. We had a good online friendship for a few years and it was always fascinating hearing his tales in real life too.

I stopped going after we had a kid and I got a really full on job - just never had the energy for Sunday night do’s and by the time I did David had stopped playing. Cosmo is fantastic though, a truly lovely down to earth person and great selector.

The slide into over-reverence and silly rules and regulations turned me off a bit too to be honest.

Those first few parties were so memorable though and the connections made were really special (and long-lasting).

I was at the Siano night.

Genuinely love the GL, something magical about the place.

Listened to her Balearic Breakfast shows. She’s so lovely and enthusiastic.

Just reading those two different postings from the two different parties, it’s all a bit People’s Front of Judea isn’t it.

Been to three lucky cloud parties- travelling up from Devon for them and to see friends of course- loved the music, food and vibe but it is the one thing that turns me off is the David dogma but if you weren’t a music nerd than you probably would have no idea. That and the quiet volume takes some getting used to!
