tickets go on sale Tuesday, hoping the stars align
Same. Taking our 15 and 13 year olds for the 1st time. I havent been since around 2006, as we’ve always usially been abroad for the bank holiday weekend.
Yeah, it’s at least 15 years for me I think, having been a regular for years. Will be interesting to see what my son makes of it. His brother’s at Reading this weekend so I thought he should have an experience too. Looking forward to it
See you down the front
Is Norman Jay still involved? The crowd by the bus used to go off!
Mos def!
Exactly this. Older brother at Reading and thought I’d intro the 13yr old. What’s the best day nowadays- Sun or Mon?
Great minds Sunday always used to be a bit quieter than Monday so I’m planning on going then and getting there for the midday start, then peeling off mid-afternoon when it gets more crowded.
He’s going to be at Alexandra Palace on Sunday, tickets from £30.
Yeah, think everything stops at around 6pm these days,
Carnival was good fun, great to also see how much my 14 year old son enjoyed it. We got there at midday and it was relatively quiet, plenty of space to bowl about. Channel One was our first stop but they were nowhere near ready and only started playing after 2pm - nothing was going to hurry them!
We mainly hung out at Solution sound and Gaz’s Rocking Blues, both which were playing some lovely reggae early on. We made a foray to Rampage which was mobbed, playing mad D&B versions of Koffee and I come from Jamrock which the boy enjoyed. By mid-afternoon, many of the sounds had turned up the bass and the volume to ridiculous levels, which made them pretty unlistenable without earplugs tbh. Channel One was noticeable in having their system better tuned but they were getting v busy by that point.
We took that as our cue to head to the pub to watch the Liverpool match which, whilst at first looking like a strategic error, turned into a great decision
Went for a couple of hours early on. My son seemed to enjoy the jerk chicken & rice more than any sounds. Nice for the boy to feel some proper bass though.
Yeah, the chest shaking bass was marvelled at!
Yeah, we had an enjoyable afternoon. Arrived at midday and took a slow stroll from NHG station via the Hillgate pub and then through the back streets to join the parade. Then spent some time at Solution, which appears to have replaced Jah Observer, and then paid the £3 to get into The Tabernacle, which makes an excellent base camp.
As you said, most of the systems were crancked to rhe point of distortion. King Tubby’s was decent but got absolutely mobbed. Tbh, i was pretty disappointed musically. Far too much soca and not enough dub/roots for my liking, but then maybe that’s just me.
Much quieter than i expected it to be, but maybe lots of folk saw the weather forecast and put it off for today -the weather actually played ball yesterday, bar the odd spot of rain at around noon.
The kids all loved it though, which ultimately is what it’s all about, innit
£30! free drinks then?
Hard Times?
I’ve got two tickets for Say She She at Village Underground tomorrow night going spare if anyone fancies. I can’t go now.
Did you make it? Did 'Nado for a bit then onto Refuge, had driven down from the Lakes in the afternoon and did 3 hours playing out before so was a bit slow off the mark…got there in the end though!
No. Homoelectric took it out of me, so all my Sunday plans went out of the window, unfortunately.
On the plus side, Grace’s (Sands) 3 hour set at Homoelectric was brilliant.
