Saw Laura Misch at the Barbican on Friday, a performance of her new album ‘Lithic’.
Felt like some sort of cosmic ritual, elements of ambient, jazz, folk, field recordings and electronica. Went down a storm and finished with a standing ovation, very impressive…
One single deck, the pauses between made it better if anything. It was somewhere between Radio 2 and Cafe Del Mar. Lost count of the thanks and compliments from the patrons of all ages.
On the geek front, I am using DBX expander and boom box, the records sound huge and punchy no matter how loud the cut. The Bryston 4B is a huge jump over the average pro amp. Theres a lot of investment in time and money and knowledge to get the sound so clear and beyond live sounding. I’m needing to attend to the battered cabs from being dragged around, often single handed, they weigh close to 60kg each, the foam on the drivers is aging and will need redoing soon. They are like a vintage car, in no way should I be risking the traveling and work they do.
I was thinking of starting a one deck thread, if anybody is thinking of kicking the whole ‘DJ’ thing into touch for certain events.
