Ace! I’m well armed
Gutted we can’t make this now.
Pesky kids have put a spanner in the works
Have fun!
That looks a good one… enjoy
For anybody headed Down Under over Xmas/NY, we are putting on 2 events you might like to check out.
A collab with another crew for a night of Detroit, Miami Bass, Afrofuturism, Electro, Acid, bodacious beats, twisted rap, skewed IDM, lobe tickling house & beyond…
and a New Year’s Day Balearic thing
Kerri on Friday night at the old Zap club in Brighton (now ‘The Arch’) bloody amazing night, haven’t danced like that for a long time, or set foot in that building since the mid nineties! All my mates brought their kids along, great mix of clubbers from 20’s to 60’s. So good that a 4am finish from Kerri still left me wanting more. I didn’t understand the DJ programming though? Kerri was bookended by Deny (Tech House) and Black Octopus (Techno)
Imagine being asked to play before or after Kerri Chandler and not adapting what you play accordingly - the arrogance of youth?
Yeah was strange really, I like the Black Octopus chaps but they went in so hard after an uplifting, energising soulful house set that the crowd were just like… ‘er I think we’ll go home now’ floor cleanse complete. I’ll suggest they contact me next time
This Friday! I couldn’t possibly comment on who the secret guest might be, but he’s From Outer Space.
How was this? Did they still have decks etc set up outside? Was there an afterparty somewhere? Thought I saw something mentioned?
It wasn’t great to be honest, we didn’t stay long (partly because the friends we’d agreed to meet had left before we got there; also I’d got home at 2am the previous night)
There was a bar set up, some fire pits outside, plus a wristband-only room for the down to the sea & back folks. The sound was absolutely awful in there. At one point they played Cesaria Evora ‘Angola’ which is an all time fave of mine but you just couldn’t hear it at all.
Other people seemed to be enjoying it so maybe just bad timing on our part.
Yeah fair play…couldn’t picture how it was going to work. Couldn’t go in the end anyway so sounds like I didn’t miss a big one. Cheers
As I say, might just have been me
Shame, as sounded like could be really good. I fancied coming down for that but couldn’t in the end. No excuse for poor sound at those type of things though, really annoys me.
I’m not sure how well known The Space Lady is in Balearic circles but to anybody with a passing interest in outsider/cult musicians, she is up there with Daniel Johnston, Captain Beefheart, Joe Meek and Jandek.
I just found out she is playing in a former church building in my sleepy suburb here in Sydney. If I walk out my front door, it is a 6 minute walk from my house. To say this is surreal is a massive understatement.
"The Space Lady (AKA Suzy Soundz; born Susan Dietrich Schneider) has a heart as soft and sweet as the distinctive coo of her voice. A listen to The Space Lady is the perfect antidote to daily stresses and anxiety – listening is like being hooked up to an IV of pure love and joy.
Since the 70’s she has been spreading her message of cosmic awakening, peace, and harmony through her simple, unique, and dazzling covers. She spent much of the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s earning a decent living busking in Boston and then San Francisco, at first on accordion, and then on what has become her trademark battery-operated Casiotone MT-40 with a phase shifter and battery-operated amp. It was during her time busking that she acquired the nickname The Space Lady, and established her signature look: a winged silver helmet with a flashing red light."
Here’s her charming cover of William DeVaughn’s “Just Be Thankful (For What You’ve Got)”
Anyone need two cheap tickets for Galliano in Brizzle tonight? A friend has some she needs to sell
Anyone been to The White Hotel Salford…? Few mates are traveling over for Felix Dickinson in a few weeks…
Looking forward to seeing them in London tomorrow
