Thanks for the reply I was going to ask for the link… sounds great
Nice @Gregg. Just had this on at dinner time though it may have back fired slightly: theres the classic Grid/Timothy Leary tune a couple of hours in with a Leary sample “think for yourself and question authority” which my 8 year old instantly reworked as 'think for yourself and question your parent’s authority" 10 minutes later at bathtime. Rebellious little sod

Great track
Long shot but does anyone want two tickets for Clark at CCA in Glasgow tonight? £30 (cost £51)
I went to a couple of contrasting gigs last week. On Thursday I went for the first time to one of the Church of Sound productions - jazz harpist Alina Bzezhinska, sax player Tony Kofi and Brian Jackson. It was a brilliant concert in a lovely venue in a church in Clapton with the pews arranged in a circle and the band in the middle. Really intimate and an intense vibe. They started with Pharoah Sanders, played some stuff from Alina and Tony’s recent album, one of Brian Jackson’s new songs, an incredible version of Rivers of my Fathers, and a heavy dose of Alice Coltrane, ending with a brilliant version of Journey to Satch. One of my favourite live music experiences in ages. 10/10
Friday night was a contrasting experience - Nas at the Albert Hall. I went with my wife and kids and we had seats up in the gods, miles from the stage. It was a great show but the sound was terrible up there and I felt very detached from the action. It was a game of two halves - the whole of Illmatic first with an orchestra and then a selection of his other hits with a DJ, bass player and drummer. The latter was miles better for me - the orchestra lacked the punch that hip hop needs and the sound didn’t carry up to the rafters where we were. 7/10
Onto Khrunagbin tonight - but listened to their new album last night and wasn’t feeling it at all, very one dimensional. They’ve been great when I’ve seen them live before though so fingers crossed…
Then Galliano tomorrow who used to do a brilliant live show in the early 90s. Hoping they’ve still got it!
I went with my lad on the Saturday night. We were standing not too far from the front.
The sound was a bit iffy there too but thoroughly enjoyed it. He is my son’s hero.
Impressive amount of going out activity!
Saw Eddie Chacon at Church of Sound. Great venue which makes for a unique experience.
Saw Galliano at a festival in the Summer. They still have!
Family trip with our 17y old daughter to see Confidence Man last nightfor my wife’s birthday
They do put on a good show
Best bit was they played all of the Rebel MC Street Tuff as they came on
‘You cant play bass’
Going to see them next week in Manchester. Need to check the new album, did have a quick flick through and sounds like they’ve doubled down on the 90s trance vibe. They are always great fun though
Went to the Laurie Anderson Ark: United States V ‘show’ at Factory International last night, bit of an audio/visual, life music and spoken word trip through her life and the state of world (some amusing if a little disturbing Musk-related segments) and more.
Definitely worth checking before it ends next week.
Daughter giving me envious vibes as she is off to Moodymann, Dam Swindle and Isaac Carter in Bristol tonight with her gang
you raised a good one
We had to cancel a few gigs when our oldest started going out . She got so embarrassed one night we were out for dinner and her mum had a spamp on her hand after we were Dixon the night before and the young waiter had the same stamp and said wow I was at Dixon last night…lol
She’s great but you know they are a worry
More dispatches from the front line:
Khruangbin on Thursday at Hammersmith Apollo:
Another game of two halves. I thought the first half was rubbish. All the slow elevator muzak stuff. Very over stylised, really doubling down on their aesthetic - this is the song where we all sit in the arches silhouetted on the stage, this is the one with knee bends, this is the one where we turn around slowly etc 4/10
Second half they really stepped it up and it was much better. Much more freestyle, brought out the hip hop and dub influences more and almost a house vibe at times. They did one proper 4/4 track which sounded great. So the last 30 mins were excellent but the first 60 were pretty boring. Second half 7.5/10
Galliano last night at Shepherds Bush empire knocked it out the park. They have always been a great live band and they’ve still got it. He’s a great frontman, she’s got a really good voice. Couple of moments where it felt they maybe needed to rehearse that a bit more but fair enough it’s been 28 years!
Still a tight band. Some great tunes, new stuff sounds good and old stuff so familiar. There was a lot of funk and they went house at one point which was brilliant. The first encore was their new version of Eddie Chacon’s Pleasure, Joy and Happiness which went into Maze, Joy and Pain - superb. Second encore was a version of Stand on the word (with their own lyrics). The empire is a great size venue - big enough for a vibe but small enough so close to the band. 9/10. Really enjoyable
Time to dig out this gem from @TheNightlark
