What don't you get

He played an acoustic set after a surf meet down here, not really my bag, everyone else was creaming their surf shorts, didn’t mind their Glasto set from a few years back though, best set of the BBC coverage I thought, trippy stuff…

I agree, I find much of the contemporary stuff put into the genre of, or made to be, ‘Balearic’ can be a little bland for me. I much prefer the earlier spirit where music was taken from a variety of times, places and contexts then sequenced to become Balearic as a whole, rather than being specifically made for the purpose, if that makes sense.

I find that many creative things are much more interesting before people know what they are supposed to be doing.

A bit like uk garage. I’m convinced every set is a variation on the same ~25 records.

Turntable weights, or whatever they’re called.
I can understand when playing live, but in your bedroom? Surely they put too much stress on the bearings in a finely balanced piece of equipment? What am I missing? … and the price!

I know what you mean but they are useful if you’ve got a slightly dished record to give more control when cueing etc. I’d be lying if i ever heard any difference in sound quality though. I guess it’s a case of lots of small things adding up to a big difference.
I’ve got the Bozak ones. They look like huge rotary knobs. I think i just like the silliness of them :grinning:.
As for the price? Ridiculous for what they are. :+1:

Have to say I’ve been tempted! Bozak ones you say…

Don’t mention the price to my wife :joy: Sheeeesh!

Yeah! The difference between ‘Accidental Balearic’ and ‘Intentional Balearic’

This… those dudes balanced each other on some super friends shit. They’re all heroes of mine and yet-

  • Francois on his own will play hours of dubstep
  • JC needs to let the crossovers breathe a bit.
  • Mr. K might be my favorite of all time disco dj but he sometimes puts a little too much emphasis on playing the song no one else would play.

At body and soul it didn’t really feel like any of this happened. They were one organism and the mood was ALWAYS right on time.

I had this one, and then when they released moon shaped pool it all clicked into place. I now feel like I wasted 20 odd years of possible Radiohead time. Thought he was a whiny git for ages. Sometimes it seems to be about context or timing or something

Orchestral versions of house music such as Pete Tong and The Heritage Orchestra - no need plus it always sounds like the strings and horns are coming out of a Roland JV1080 module

Awkward head nodding from the whole orchestra… :see_no_evil:

I use them when playing to a room of heavyweight collectors to cover up my very cheap bangers. Only kidding, who would do something like that

Yessss…what a slow burner that one is. Great bump to it too

this is really depressing to me - there are thousands of great UK garage singles and remixes from its initial peak phase for literally pennies on Discogs and eBay. And there are plenty of new producers doing exciting and weird things stylistically with it today. And yet all we ever seem to get are rewinds on “Flowers” and “Never Gonna Let You Go.”

Yeah. I liked this one… Felt like it messed with the template…
