I interviewed Stevie Wonder in 2008, had a great chat. I wasn’t a superfan or anything, I mean I was enough of a fan sure, without specifically collecting his records or anything. Stevie was 58-59 years old that year, was booked to play an 18 000 capacity stadium in my city. I was slightly concerned, would that be too big a venue for a guy of that vintage? MFer absolutely smashed it! One of the best gigs I’ve ever been to. 58 years old? Nah, he seemed in his prime. Stadium gigs are tough for artists I think, but he knocked it.. out.. of.. the.. park. One of those life affirming gigs for everyone who was there that night. Love Stevie

I get it. Used to love him, but now it seems with each new film or project, he’s trying to out ‘Wes Anderson’ himself (Colour palette, symmetry etc). He has made some corkers though.
I can’t abide anything touched by Ryan Murphy tbh. It’s invariably glossy, melodramatic, camp nonsense.

He has an enormous anti-talent for making great actors flat, everything is like a diorama. But that’s his schtick. The Royal Tenenbaums still hits, Rushmore as well, and we actually quite liked Moonrise Kingdom. Honorable mentions to Isle of Dogs, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and The Phoenician Scheme which was a welcome return to form.

Rewatched it recently and despite loving it when it was released, I found it super annoying and try too hard. Meh. Some things belong where they rest.

I still love some scenes from his older films, in new ones I don’t have them. Cinematography is amazing but the flow, storytelling and characters are… I don’t get it!
Life Aquatic was the first mindfuck for me, great scenes but in total wtf?!

I endorse this post with all my being. Despise the annual air show in my home town and usually book a weekend away to avoid it.
Totally understand that it brings many people into town, good for the economy etc but it’s a hard no from me for all the reasons you’ve articulated

They just had one near me last month. I live a bit further out now but its a nightmare for those nearby. Roads being closed, diversions, tons of traffic etc

You too? I didn’t miss a lift, I had a lift but I was skint. My mate Rich was like “you won’t need any money” but I couldn’t imagine that would be the case and I didn’t want to ponce off people. Plus my personal needs at the time were probably not going to be satisfied by the gifts of friends and strangers…
Plus I thought “it’s just another free party”
