What don't you get

Passing thought that LAME edits would not surprise me as a post-ironic moniker.

Bar:Low Edits is particularly amusing if you’re from the UK.

Well there’s a DJ Absolutely Shit.

Shit Edits can only be a matter of time.

pretty sure DJ Woody is behind this (former Grand Central/turntable champion from way back)

It’s indeed Woody and Ruud (Metrodome) from Red Laser. Their EPs they released were very good.

Does anyone else’s significant other send them 5-10 reels/stories on Instagram a day and expect you to watch them? I get sent a load of them and stopped watching them about 8 months ago. She got the hump when I told her I had no desire to watch them as she made them sound like she’s been specifically curating them for me. Anyway….

Yeah can you tell her to stop sending them? Also, how did she get my number? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::yum:

There was a “Pointless Edits” label a few years back. If I remember correctly I think whoever started the label took it from a comment from Bill Brewster on DJH, about the number of pointless edits going around at the time.

at the height of the mp3 blog boom I came across some pointless edits which admittedly did make me laugh eg when someone redid ‘dreadlock holiday’ stripping out everything except the marimbas. someone even did “a day in the life” which was akin to a sword through the mona lisa.

the situation got so bad that sites like AOR Disco had to put out these apologetic sheepish statements urging people to recognise the original creators instead…

as ever though, it’s disentangling the wheat/chaff. When done well alla leo zero or prince language they still have their place

Look I’ll try but she’s quite prolific and stubborn, so we will have to weather the storm together.

Ha ha ha! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I am that other half sending said reels to my other half who, like you, rarely watches them, unless there are cute cats involved,

Sorry.

There was indeed, it was run out of Bristol by a friend who is a noted record collector and dance music journalist and author, not millions of those round these parts so pretty way to guess who, I’d say his name but he might want me to Bleep it out…

Do they want to sign up for the support group I’m starting?

I absolutely love 7’'s, which were the format I first spent money on. Have around 500 that I have no intention of selling/giving away. The only time I DJ for fun, as in just me, 2 turntables and some records, is with 45’s.

The new Chaka Khan song, ‘Chakzilla’… autotune all over :slightly_frowning_face:

Couldn’t believe nobody else could see how bad Like Sugar was too. Her voice was terrible on that.

I have a small collection of 7"s that I really cherish, the rest I can’t be dealing with even though they are great tunes - chucked em all up on Discogs. My peeve is any DJ who advertises a night announcing they’ll be playing an “all 7"s set” - gettefuck with you. Nobody cares.

Whaaaaaat?! Sevens are amazing. Quite aside from a lot of music only being available on them and, if you’re interested in reggae, they’re kind of essential, the format itself is wonderful.

Yeah as i said, fine for reggae + northern soul and what have you but cant help feeling that if it was a good format it wouldnt have been completely abandoned for 20 odd years.

Classic 12s being re-released on 7 is just something to cater for/exploit the collectors gene in those that didnt have anything left to buy

To each their own and all that though.
