I’m afraid the Beastie Boys for me aged about as well as the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day off
At the time seemed quite entertaining briefly - in hindsight all looks a bit entitled and arrogant
They weren’t exactly going to be going hungry if the rap thing didn’t work out.
I struggled to get past that even post Licence to Ill.

Remember asking Eric Duncan about that mash-up many years back. He seemed quite chuffed anyone remembered it. My guess is it was just a disposable jam they had fun putting together. I was quite partial to the alan braxe bootleg of intergalactic but probably sounds way too hectic now

Interesting you say that as thr movie adaptation of Less than Zero with Downey Jr essentially playing himself has actually aged much better

Us too. Watching it again and realising that film is really about Cameron makes it more interesting.
I love the comparison to Brett Easton Ellis though. Rules of attraction popped up the other day but I seem to remember that being a poor adaptation.

It has its funny moments for sure but the titular character really grates on me watching it years later.
Was that thr point all along? I dunno- didn’t get that impression as a teenager. Strange how perception changes with passage of time

Yeah, I never tire of it and I tear up at the museum scene every time. I was visiting a friend in Lake Forest, IL last year and was getting major Ferris Bueller vibes. I mentioned this and my friend agreed and pointed at a massive pile saying “John Hughes lived here for years…”

Watched it recently with my late teens daughter and quite enjoyed it. I’m sure I read something (probably suggested here) that it’s about Cam processing his grief after his mum dies?
I find myself increasingly sympathising with the teacher as I get older …

detroit redwings jersey, khakis and a flat-billed cap. sooner or later someone will ask “so what are you dressed up as?”, to which all i have to say is “have you seen ferris bueller’s day off?”
