After seeing so many mention it in best of 2025 music lists and having missed it I had to check out; Barker - Stochastic Drift, except the track ‘Fluid Mechanics’. I’m a big fan of all his earlier work too.

His voice is deffo an acquired taste, a big part of the hype is probably cos they’re from Brooklyn if they were from Barnsley it’d be a different story.

With you here. It’s just … meh.

They’re a good looking band from New York with a constantly forlorn looking frontman, and have that open-ended ambiguous lyric thing going on that gives their songs a universal feel and allows them to be applied across different contexts. Basically just a Gen Z version of the Strokes. Quite like the bloke’s voice tbh although some of the songs I’ve heard are weak.

I’d be obsessed with them if I was a teenager and would probably be scrawling their lyrics on the high school walls like I did with the Strokes - shudder at the thought now…

I’ve just had a very unpleasant interaction with a neighbouring metal worker.
It was a three way conversation between us and a mechanic which quickly escalated from the Ulez charge (“fuck the pollution”) to the EU (“they’re fucked”), Japan (“she’s kicked the mussies out”) to radical extremism and then telling me to take my liberal views and F off out of his country. All i did was suggest that his views were quite radical and possibly extreme. :man_shrugging:t2:

He did also mention that his wife was a refugee but he’s massive and I didn’t want to point out the glaring hypocrisy.
Plus I rely on him for my 3phase electricity. Bit like us and Russia maybe.

Sharing here so it doesn’t eat me up all day. :joy:

'And how did that make you feel?’ said in my best Therapists voice.

Haha! It’s not surprising perhaps that after doing a bit of that this last year, I’m able to remain (fairly) calm in those circumstances and try and offer a more balanced view without inflaming a difficult situation. I think in this instance that was a bit more of a challenge as he’d pretty much lost his rag.
Anyway whether it was the therapy or just self-preservation that stopped me I’m not sure :joy:

In all seriousness he sounds like a nasty sob. Best avoid or send him a Christmas card with ‘Happy Holidays’ on the front, with or without a dark skinned Jesus, your call.

People approaching politics and world events like its a football rivalry are fucking dense.

Never any room for any nuance or balance with these dickheads, its always black + white

My partner always writes “I hope your day is as wonderful as you are” on birthday cards to people she thinks are miserable :joy:

And that’s the in-laws christmas message sorted.

I can’t say I dislike it, but it kinda reminds me of a bunch of tracks that never made it onto Odelay, sung by Thom Yorke.

People who scam you on Discogs.

Got a seller I bought an $8 record off and he hasn’t sent it yet. When I asked when he was going to send it he sent me a tracking number but he still hasnt given the package to USPS., it definitely doesn’t exist and he’s going through all of this to make $8.

The mind boggles.

What’s the feedback like?

My last three orders have been cancelled almost immediately, out of stock. Yet to receive refunds for two of them. All feels a bit calculated.

His feedback was absolutely fine until a few months ago when a few of these popped up. Looks like he targets small orders, and the larger ones go through fine. Probably thinks people won’t fight him for $8.

I stupidly didn’t read the feedback.

I just had yet another run of discos out of stock records, 6 in a row this time.
Just had another Discogs buy that for some reason my payment didn’t go through in time so it got auto cancelled. The seller politely said that by mistake he had already posted it and if I paid for it he would take off $2 as a gesture of good will. I agreed immediately and sent through the payment. 2 days later he thanked me and said that he’d post the record soon. He got me there.
