I generally never liked Sade back in the day mainly due to massive over exposure, she was on in every shop and all day on radio one(which killed a lot of mid 80’s music for me), but I have come to love some of her stuff now with fresh ears, but easy does it.
Hang On To Your Love is a banger
Me too. Irritating on a number of different levels and I hate the SC version of Promised Land.
I was out at Your love is king and I’m afraid she could not possibly have saved it thereafter
Sade is quite a divisive topic in our household. My girlfriend absolutely cannot stand ‘loungey’ music which is deeply problematic when I’m in that mood
Not a Weller fan at all here, but ‘Shout to the Top’ is the absolute business.
I still remember the big chill 2007, Greg Wilson playing it towards the end at fat tuesdays and the whole field going off!
Me and a mate used to listen to them on my walkman on the school bus. Always drew some confused looks when asked what we had on.
Definitely!
and Long Hot Summer
I was a teenage mod ticket who saw The Jam a dozen times so am slightly biased, but I’ve always thought getting these lyrics to #1 was hugely impressive.
Sadly just as relevant 45yrs later.
What you see is what you get
You’ve made your bed, you better lie in it
You choose your leaders and place your trust
As their lies wash you down and their promises rust
You’ll see kidney machines replaced by rockets and guns
And the public wants what the public gets
But I don’t get what this society wants
Yessss!
I’m also quite partial to Ever Changing Moods and Have You Ever Had It Blue.
Not a massive fan of any of his other stuff tbh.
10 Bob Steve Marriott
Absolutely… who told him that was a good idea?
Me too. A proper little Mod from 11 to 15. Tonic suit. Bowling shoes. Lonsdale. First proper gig was The Kinks supported by The Truth! One time owner of the communal parka that seemed to change hands every few days in my friend group with ‘The Creation’ and target sprayed on the back. Loved The Jam and Two Tone. Still have a soft spot for Weller, although I don’t like any of his new stuff but I admire his determination to move forwards
Soldier of Love is where I get off the bus, always found it rather mid… but I love everything before and I think Lover’s Rock is underrated. Terrific band.
I love Sade, the Jam, Style Council and the Cocteau Twins.
Also in the mid-80s I was working in Harrow and there was a wine bar we drank in after work explicitly because it was marginally safer than the pubs nearby.
Confession over
Utter blasphemy
(Although you’d get on well with my partner probably lol)
Father forgive
Sade is just OK with me, I wish I liked the music more though. I have three Sade albums and decided to give them all a spin recently, I liked all three albums but to me they all sounded too similar with few stand out tracks and only a few tracks I didn’t like.
I do think she ( Sade Adu) was incredibly cool and equally beautiful, photos of her often pop up on my facebook feed, she was definitely photogenic.
NYE I played the Ronin remix of Paradise, which to me sounds better than any of the Sade edits floating around.
