What don't you get

i’m probably reading too much into it but there’s a kindness and softness to her vocals that i appreciate. she sounds comforting. she’s never screamed at me (on record, or in real life).

I remember that summer of 84, what with this and the Style Council we were almost buying French fags

did/do any of you spend much time in wine bars? do they still exist? (where I live, everyone guzzles wine so distinction is blurred…) I thought they’d given way to more generic tapas or dimly lit gastros… in any case, I always associated that soppy music more with early morning cab rides back from parties when you were pleading with the driver to put on something more ‘appropriate’

I went to one before Christmas in Borough, although I don’t drink wine. Definitely different to both a bar and a pub for reasons I can’t really explain!

Be careful about asking cab drivers to change the tunes….,doesn’t always go well.

I hope French cabbies are more obliging than Spanish ones, who take personal offence if you ask for anything other than reggaeton

French taxis are the most expensive on the planet so I’m sure they’ll play anything you fancy!

Now you’re talking. She gives me all the feels. Don’t get me wrong, I like Sade, it’s just the endless reworks and edits.

Whilst we’re on it… Cocteau Twins. I just find them a bit silly.

I love Liz Frazer’s voice but some of the production on their early stuff hasn’t aged well.
I can see how some of it comes across a little twee at times…

That said-
Watchlar is perfection for me

You had to be in UK in the 80s where wine bars where a sophisticated alternative to the pub ( which probably didnt sell wine & definitely didnt sell drinkable wine)

I get why people dont truly get Sade but at the time it was so different

don’t agree with Sade, but agree with this.
