No Dylan, no ‘later’ Beatles? Hmm…

Missus is massive Dylan nerd but he always left me cold

I like a bit of Bob, but get completely why many don’t get. 70s Bob is my Bob of choice (that’s 1970s ).

Why are Channel 4 talking over the top of and not covering the full paralympic closing ceremony

Very disrespectful to the djs, athletes and performers :disappointed::disappointed:

Yeah similar, i’m far from a Dylan obsessive but he’s written some great songs, was listening to Bryan Ferry’s fantastic version of A Hard Rain’s A Gonna Fall earlier today, had to keep playing it over and over because the lyrics and the whole flow (meter?) is so good.
His influence is vast, Ferry alone owes him a lot.

Also not an obsessive but he got really good for a bit. There is a Dylan album song or album for nearly every occasion.

When it gets real cold and you have a stew in the oven nothing beats the coziness of “Nashville Skyline”.

“Jokerman” with Sly & Robby is a bit balearic imho

I can’t count the times I’ve pondered each and every verse on “Blood on the Tracks”.

Dylan in 1975 was peak Dylan for me. Watch any Rolling Thunder Revue tour footage with a cracking band (and Bob complete with white face paint) to see the guy at his unstoppable best.

I love that tour as well, and Desire is a big one for me—from the close harmony with Emmylou Harris, Scarlett’s fiddle, some wonderful & mystical songs.

Emmylou with Gram, Emmylou with Neil Young, Emmylou with countless others - that woman brought colour and depth to so many incredible songs.

Emmylou is on the new Fred Again record.

Is her’s the definitive version of Pancho and Lefty? I think so.

There’s just so much to say about Bob Dylan, his craft, his influence, the various stages of his career it’s difficult to know where to start. I’m a fan.

For those with their collections stored in Discogs, it’s interesting to type ‘Bob Dylan’ into the search and see the variety of records you own which include his work.
Plus I really like I shall be Released
from this LITA comp.

I can’t believe there was a Diamond League athletics event this weekend while the Paralympics was still on - that is so disrespectful.

Have you heard Townes van Zandt’s version? Maybe not the definitive version, but very good.

I took a train journey a while ago and listened to every version. TVZ wrote it and it is a beautiful version but there is something about Emmylou’s voice that gets me every single time. Also it was the first version I heard so that probably has something to do with it :+1:

Agreed on Pancho & Lefty - gorgeous!

edit: damn YouTube really gotta play like that :frowning:

There is a long-running Dylan show on Resonance FM called Definitely Dylan that I find fascinating despite not being a massive fan of him at all.

That really is a great version. I really like the Street Legal album, not held in very high regard when it first came out I think.

The ‘theme time radio hour’ archive is linked above
The 101 radio shows Dylan presented early 2000s each having a different unifying theme.
Even if you don’t like all the music Bob plays, some great stories told in his gravelly rasp. Real slice of beatnik edged Americana

I dont get why everyone dosent listen to Loren Connors
Mended Dreams w/ Claire Rousay - Loren Connors special 8th May 2023 | Listen on NTS

Is there an award for the most pretentious song title as surely this would win 2024 hands down? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes::grimacing:
