It’s ’pre-Balearic’ Balearic. The original Ibiza vibe. Can only be listened to whilst riding a donkey which is wearing espadrilles.

The guy’s having the time of his life, putting smiles on a lot faces. Regardless of my opinion (which is basically that I don’t give a f**k what he does, seems harmless to me), it seems some have decided that there’s something fundamentally wrong with him entertaining his audience…
Maybe it’s a case of “don’t hate the player, hate the game”? or good old envy? either way, good luck to him, he’s doing what he loves and making a living from it for now, long may he continue…

Fair point, well made.
It’s one thing tapping into something on Insta that, for reasons I don’t understand, resonates with a lot of people. It’s quite another getting booked for fee paying gigs of the back of that, a very different discipline than creating ‘content’, unless he’s gonna play in his dressing gown and give a potted history of each tune before he plays it, in which case the world’s gone mad.
I’m nothing more than an occasional home DJ and have never had any aspiration to more than that, so it’s not envy. Equally, I don’t hold it against him to exploit any opportunities that are thrown his way. What grinds my gears is that real DJ talent gets overlooked and doesn’t get heard because of this shit.
Of course, I haven’t heard him play. Perhaps he’s really good. Somehow, I doubt it

I think he’s nothing more than a sideshow act at festivals and maybe student union type gigs, nothing more. I doubt the people booking him for that are interested in “real dj talent”. as I said, “….hate the game”

I don’t see what the problem is ? Some people are very passionate about spinning 45’s. I’m sure a lot of folk in the Northern Soul scene would very much disagree with you on that. Spinning those tunes is an art-form in itself over the course of a whole night.

If its a genre where the nusic is primarily available on 7" like soul + reggae then fair enough. Playing hip hop and house on 7"s is ridiculous imo. Especially when the DJ insists on exclusively using that format

Nah, I have no problem with the format (i have over 1000 7"s) but i think i perhaps share the same sentiment as some of the original posters about this new breed of 7" DJ on some level.
It does seem like the most annoying group of men have made it their personality.

Right. As a format it’s great, and truly more versatile if you’re all about the skills a la DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist, and more recently DJ Koco, and Sticky Dojah… then fair fucks. I get the Northern Soul and Reggae/Dub thing too.
Limiting yourself to that format if you’re just going to play a bunch of house and hip hop tunes seems pointless to me. “Yeah I only play 45s” is clearly an attention grab and some lame attempt at standing out in the vast ocean of shit DJs.
