What don't you get

This is how I imagine the end of the Soviet Union would have been like with Brezhnev and Andropov. just when you think politics can’t get any worse …

Its beyond ludicrous that its got to this stage, he barely knows where he is.

Half an hour after they’ve paid for the record.

Chancers, you just know when they send that message they’re going to say they didn’t receive the record.

I’ve started sending everything 2nd class signed for even though I don’t state it, so when they do that I can send them a tracking number, to thwart their evil plan. Can’t remember once getting a thank you after doing so.

I do the same, although I seem to have been lucky so far. Rarely get any complaints.

I’ve just jinxed myself now, haven’t I?

This definitely.

Or the inevitable…

Kamala Harris a much more viable prospect.

The way the Republicans have rallied around Trump is disgusting

So many aspects of US politics are really depressing (the ludicrous electoral college system, the power of the Senate, the politicised Supreme Court, gerrymandering and the rest of it) but I think what makes it even worse is that the US cannot offer global leadership whilst compromised at home, which leaves the Global South and emerging nations even more susceptible to Russian and Chinese influence (as we keep seeing at the UN). Seems to me that until a new Kennedy-esque American leader emerges who can heal the rifts and take on the reactionary/fascistic elements holding the USA back, we are stuck in a scary place. The America First and Chomsky tendencies alike who want Uncle Sam to exit the world need to come up with an alternative strategy and fast, otherwise we face a future of Putin and Xi calling the shots.

Theres also this increasing tendency to treat political parties like sports teams with too many people just blindly swearing allegiance and belieiving right is good / left is bad (or vice versa).

If youre someone whos really into guns and thats your thing then fair enough but i dont get why that automatically means you then are also anti-abortion and dont believe in climate change.

Obviously its still fuck the Tories though

Jeremy Hunt is my MP, and Gove is/was the MP for my hometown in the neighbouring constituency so looking forward to them both fucking off

Harris is not electable or they’d have done it. Her reputation and likability are at an all time low amongst democrat voters so if Biden were to step aside then it wouldn’t be her.

I’ve been a citizen for nearly 10 years now and have never voted for someone just against people. Politics is a sad state of affairs in the US and last night was the absolute low point given that one of those two clowns will steer the ship for the next 4 years.

Yeah, i have had a few annoying moments as both a buyer and seller, but generally it has been quite smooth for me over the years. I buy and sell every week on the site. I guess some people just luck out.

Unless Joe’s family stage an intervention soon. I believe that’s unlikely as Jill Biden quite likes being first lady. Something needs to happen immediately for Dems to have time to mobilise

She will be counting down the days after last night, Biden is cooked. It shows what a clique politics is as the other dem in the spotlight Gavin Newsomes ex wife is engaged to one of Trumps sons apparently.

Sadly that’s what we thought Obama would be–a Kennedy-esque inspiring leader who would heal the rifts and take on the reactionary/fascistic elements holding us back. I remember the euphoria of that night–15 years ago!–we were dancing in the streets, it was going to be a new era.

Fair point. But at least she is cognisant.
Relatives in US also of the opinion that the idea of a female president is a long way off for many voters anyhow

A female Indian president even further off.

I wouldn’t hold your breath. He could’ve/should’ve announced he was one and done a year ago and let the process take place to find a viable candidate but they are not the party of bold decisions. Can you imagine what Biden will be like in a year, let alone 4.

I think an open convention could be very energising and think there is actually upside–it’s great that this happened in June instead of in the fall. It will be shameful if Biden and his enablers insist on carrying the campaign to term.

It wouldn’t be a shock if he died before the election.

You’re probably right. He’s on the stump right now saying he’s going to continue

I have real existential dread about the whole thing. Essentially everything that I value and cherish about the world–openness, tolerance, diversity, culture, knowledge/literacy appears to be in retrograde. Whether from reactionary political forces, technology, greed. There are bright spots, for sure, and I try to keep focused on those.
