Sent a copy of a record, buyer is now claiming it’s a reissue - it isn’t - and he wants me to send him a refund but has kindly offered to take the record he now has for $20. It’s a $200 record.
I think that concludes my record selling foray on Discogs.
my advice isn’t worth squat, but here’s what i would do.
offer to refund them in full but demand that it’s contingent upon them sending the record back to you. assuming shipping’s reasonable, you can offer to pay them to ship it back to you. hopefully that isn’t overly expensive. (let’s say it’s) $15 to get a $200 record back, that isn’t too wild of an investment.
once it’s back in your hands, you can still give them positive feedback with something like “whoops, a misunderstanding but we worked it out” even though it’s complete bullpuckey. if they refuse to ship it back to you, then you have some ground to stand on with the discogs or paypal folks. you might not be able to prove that you sent an original, but they can’t prove that you sent them a reissue. you eat the shipping costs, but at least you have a $200 record back in your hands (or a full payment because this jerkoff can’t prove this was a re-ish).
and - and i’m absolutely not above this - there’s a certain amount of window before you can drop neg feedback on someone. i’ve absolutely waited until the last day or two and then been like “this guy is a crook and the whole world knows it” and that shit lasts for life.
Just sent him an email with “my bad, I’ll refund you plus shipping, sorry you didn’t get the version you wanted, etc.” and within seconds he said I should just refund him $180 and he’ll keep the record because “shipping is too much of a hassle”. So I responded with, “no, it’s ok I’m in New York next week and I see you’re in Newark, I’ll just swing by and get it from you”.
He’s going on holiday apparently.
Discogs buyers who don’t pay for orders straight away…
what about sellers like me who take forever to post the orders? haha
I’m very much the same, although as a buyer it doesn’t particularly bother me waiting longer if I’m buying from a “private” seller as opposed to an actual record shop/label’s Discogs store etc
My absolute favourite thing is a discogs message in all caps asking WHEN YOU SHIPPING??? I think it’s the amazon effect. I’ll cancel and block someone in flash for that tbh
Or “what’s the tracking number” when they’ve paid for non tracked postage
Grim as…
Thought about selling on Discogs but this is what puts me right off, the thought of having to deal with some chancer & all the ball ache that would come with it.
Yeah, I’m done.
This bloke keeps popping up on instagram as well usually taking the piss out of London boroughs. Now it’s the Fish
Hmmmm… I’m really keen to shift a load of records but tend to get quite stressed about things and can see sleepless nights driven by discogs buyers being dicks
Where are you based, maybe someone here can recommend a sound second hand shop?
I’ve been both a seller and buyer on scogs for quite a while now. It’s got to the point as a buyer where I don’t think I’ve had a smooth buy for quite a while, including records not showing up then not able to get a refund, rediculous grading and the last 4 purchases that they didn’t even own. Why can’t I just leave it alone
or sellers who say they’ll drop your record off to you and take forever to show up?! ![]()
