That’s in the process of breaking down. The stage where people settle down, buy a house and have a decent income is becoming a thing of the past for a larger group now.
Labour trying to look more and more like Tory Lite is truly depressing - I completely understand the need to be more centrist if they have any real desire to get into power, but what are they actually offering the country… a slightly less crap version of what we’ve had for nearly a decade and a half?
I believe (of course may be completely wrong) that there is room to manoeuvre regarding the economy.
I dont know much about LCD Soundsystem but this is another example of the whole Live Nation/O2/Ticketmaster corporate bollocks that will eventually exclude a good amount of kids from experiencing live music + DJs. Id like to think it might inspire a rebellion against it but that doesnt seem to happen anymore because who has the time or money for that?
Sunak’s speech today boiled down into four points.
Yes the country is a total fuxking shitshow but I’m different to all the rest and it’s not my fault. Here’s my billionaire tax dodging wife by the way.
We’re scrapping A levels … in 2036.
We’re scrapping a project we’ve been in charge of for 13 years that we’ve spent billions on already to speed up trains between London and Birmingham. We’ll spend the rest on other transport things that either we’ve announced before, that nobody wants, or which will take 10 years or more to come to fruition.
“…Rishi Sunak says he will quadruple the number of trains between Sheffield and Leeds.
As there are currently five per hour each way, that will mean 20 trains per hour: one every three minutes…”
Am just wondering what Sunak can really offer now, that anyone would believe? At a stretch, boundary changes and improved macroeconomics might save a few seats. He might try and troll the Scots and get the SNP fired up again, but ultimately does feel doomed.
I genuinely thought in 2019 - naively? - that the tory levelling up lobby would be a lot stronger. the North ‘had spoken’ etc. and because Boris’s ego seemed to demand trophies and big projects. I thought that might inadvertently be the only positive legacy. And that those mps would want to get re-elected for starters… was it all soundbites from the start or did it all just die because things lost momentum or got buried in whitehall paperwork?
