“TOO MUCH CONTENT” (shakes fist at sky)
Id go if Pikes has a New Beat themed evening
The old liberty bar that became Rock Bar in Ibiza Town always had new beat back in the 90s Sean and later Leo Mas I think were regular guest. That’s where the original funky room in pacha came from. Sid and Nick from Rock bar leased that little room and ran the bar for a few summers
I get it, been there too, I always find my lifelong love of all form of Reggae/Dub/Lovers etc comes to the rescue until something interesting comes around House wise.
Aren’t we blessed Drake and Beyonce are here to save the day…
Yeah, for sure. Luckily there’s always something else. And thank god there’s enough older music still to discover.
Praise! What would Ron and Frankie say?
They’d be working on the album and be rich.
It’s completely out of my league and like lots of things is sadly becoming the preserve of people with a fair chunk of disposable income. A few choice mp3 purchases every month keeps my head nodding. Not quite as romantic as a slice of vinyl but didn’t someone once comment ‘music is music’!
That person was spot on!
When I’m out dancing, the format the dj is playing is the last thing on my mind. Vinyl is becoming a fairly elitist thing. And I totally get the costs involved in producing these releases. For 90% of the music I buy, I’m happy to pay a couple of quid for a lossless file these days. I only buy the occasional LP or 7" now and stopped buying dance 12" a long time ago.
Everything sounds/looks/imagines better on paper told by the victors. In reality you go and see for yourself and that comes with the broken bog door and the prick barging past you.
I’ve been to Pikes countless times and it’s always been a mix of sound people, the odd annoying c*@t, but mostly people who are just up for it. Floor is tiny, but there’s a shortcut to the back through Pamela’s
Heard Harvey play some tunes in there that have been ear to ear grins for us
Remember meeting Sid in San Antonio in 1995 when he had his hair up in dreads….then again at the Rock Bar maybe 2000 ish?
That sounds like Dj and now chef Sid Shanti during his Goa days lol. His cook books very good. People always got Sid mixed up with Sid from Rock bar. They were all mates
Could very well have been!
Another character to say the least… His mad BBQ on roof of Manumission motel was like something from the Muppet Show
Maybe the Techno djs might cull the c#nts from there, I heard there’s some right bellends in attendance this year. But like everything one persons bellend is another person’s hero.
Good name for the night Cull of the C#nts.
What LF System have done to Silk is borderline criminal. And why is it so fast?
Devils advocate, that record is a massive hit and liked by young and old. Compared to the stream of ‘soulful house’ being churned out I don’t see it being any worse than any more of the sped up disco which has been milked for a least two decades.
Don’t get the hate.
Edit…
Not on vinyl, hate it, I’m old
Record collecting elitism. Just saw Luke’s story about a back alley record store in Mexico City - as an aside they’re all back alley or stalls out there but that’s moot - and then saying that he won’t say where it was because the info was given to him as a gift by another grizzled record collector and honestly unless you’re keeping the owner in a comfortable living why not tell anyone and everyone? The man has worked hard to accumulate his stock and your grand every year isn’t going to keep his head above water.
Think it’s mostly because I like where the vocal is sampled from and that it’s got the subtlety of a doctor performing a colonoscopy with a studded glove.
