What don't you get

very true… see also labels commissioning ‘beatless’ remixes of everything in a bid to sound like Smokebelch… I think everyone was cashing in after one of the Ministry albums sold mega and Royksopp and Dido’s success too. (perhaps unfair to lump Royksopp in, they did at least make some memorable tunes)

fast fwd 20 years I think we’re seeing a bit of a repeat of this trend to wallpaper with some of the completely anonymous ‘organic’ prog big on the WooMoon/Ibiza circuit which would be strong enough to anaesthetise an entire operating theatre

The influence that the fundamentalist, religious right have in the US. Depressing.

it’s astoundingly depressing. i was raised to be deeply suspicious of churches and church-goers, and for good reason.

for a number of years i worked either installing or supporting pro audio systems, which meant that i was frequently in bars, restaurants, hotels, sports arenas, nightclubs, strip clubs, and yes - churches. guess who was far and away the worst group of people to work with?

apologies for being painting with such a broad brush, but it’s been a crappy few days here in the US, and i’m worried for a great many people.

It really is a depressing time. We have many of the same problems as the US here, but we don’t have the same issue with fundamentalists and only have small groups outside hospitals and clinics.

I’m assuming individual states can at least take this to the courts?

i’d assume so, though that’s just going to deepen the divide. with roe in danger, obergefell is also in danger and if that falls, it’s easy to imagine completely different fucking laws depending on which state you’re in.

a good twitter thread on where all of this is likely going: https://twitter.com/a_h_reaume/status/1521316453944758273

That last line made me laugh. I feel like it’s shooting fish in a barrel to not dig these kind of acts. Today’s news - tomorrow’s fish and chip wrapper etc etc

Punk in general… yeah, 'cause you white, hetero, middle class boys have sooo much to complain about.

Everyone’s punk now though, from IT startups to Zelensky to Banksy to Weatherall’s disciples. The word has been diluted to now refer to anyone claiming to be an underdog or anti-system. I also think it’s interesting that in the US there is this parallel Afropunk scene on the fringes of both the black and white mainstream, which seems closer in spirit to it than anyone else.

Punk at its heart was more about nihilism than anything else. Making it about class or ethnicity is just putting barriers up to who is allowed to create their art.
But as Hierbas has said its a meaningless term now.

I have a feeling I’ve already mentioned this, or someone else may have done, but they boil my p*ss so worthy of a second post…

Jack Whitehall and that utter buffoon of a father of his.

Absolute c*nts.

His brother worked on reception at my wife’s firm and was apparently completely normal/definitely not a tw@t. Perhaps he has a different dad?

Whilst I sort of get the origins of the suffix, it still really annoys me.

The way every slight controversy or crap has to have ‘gate’ tagged onto the end of it. Partygate, beergate, pizzagate. FFS.

It shouldn’t bother me but it does.

You can have [insert latest scandal]gate, but gimme some bucks and I’ll be straight.
