Track ID’s - Name That Tune

Big fave. iirc, he’s edited an old 80’s advert track.

That’s amazing, thanks so much! Immediately purchased on Bandcamp - Apparently its an edit of the winner of a song contest run by a German underwear and bathing suit company in 1984???

While we’re discussing this particular mix, does anyone know the dreamy track at about 16:00 mins in? It’s superb!

Reminds me of this disco rarity ( Harvey cover up) written for Burnley Building Society Advert with lyrics by Salman Rushdie

Sounds frustratingly familiar!

I’m from Blackburn and even I have to show respect to this

Does anyone have a clue what comes in at exactly 19 mins in this mix?

Shazam draws a blank, Googling the incredibly generic lyrics yields no positive matches either. I’ve done a fair bit of guesswork on possible titles in the likely year of release, nowt!

If I had to guess i’d say 82-84, Canada or UK. It’s either something incredibly obvious or obscure! Or maybe, something in between.

looking for the house joint at 55 mins here (timestamped) - Jump Source @ SAT, Montreal | July 23rd, 2021 - YouTube
samples fifth element - whosampled doesnt come up with anything!

Swear I’ve heard this before, but no idea what it is unfortunately. Did spend some time this evening trying to find it but alas, no result. I think it’s a US/Canadian release personally, almost certainly mid-80s as well. Probably worth reaching out to the DJ on SoundCloud!

Yeah, just the dude has a slightly odd American accent which makes me wonder if he’s a Brit - also just the feel is very Soft Cell / Visage / early Eurythmics to me. I would possibly lean on this being a Canadian record though.

It surely can’t have been recorded after 84 ish, the dry sounding snare and the synth bass being that weedy… but truly who knows. I did the same as you, searching discogs for anything ‘electronic’ 80-85 for some of the phrases in the lyrics, I really felt like i’d eventually just spot it!

Unfortunately reading between the lines of some comments on his mixes, it seems like the DJ responsible for the mix has since passed away :disappointed:

Try asking the DJ History forum too. If anyone will know, it’s Bill.

played by dj Mozart, 1979-1980 ish.

It is not Herbie, Weldon or Bohannon.

Sounds like The Police, Voices in My Head, pitched down…

thank you. I fear you may be right. doesn’t work without the tape hiss though, and reminds me why I never liked the police. Guess I could run it through a load of vsts if I decide to get it.

Maybe Beedle and Harvey will make it sound better…
