I agree with your view on this one. Thought some of the actors did a lot of heavy lifting to cover up a very insubstantial and not particularly engaging story. Richard Brody of “The New Yorker” summarised the film bluntly as a “‘Brideshead’ for the incel age”, which I think is a pithy but fairly accurate conclusion.
The more I think about, the more I’ve upgraded my initial opinion. It’s ok. Some scenes are there just to shock and don’t really add any value. The hype is ridiculous though. It wasn’t THAT good. There are lots of films that did the whole ‘class’ thing so much better. Parasite being one of them.
Went to watch Priscilla the other night and really enjoyed it. A lovely, sensitive and seemingly faithful look at her life with Elvis, with that signature dreamy Sofia Coppola vibe that I love.
I don’t care much for Elvis’s music nor do I really know much about him, but even still it’s definitely worth a watch. Nice soundtrack as well featuring Alice Coltrane, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Ramones, Pastor T.L. Barrett alongside some standards from the time
