Saw Past Lives last night. Wonderful film, felt a bit of a lump in my throat at the end.
Did ask my wife (who moved to the UK from New Zealand about 30 years ago), if a Kiwi called Brendan was likely to randomly turn up in London any time soon.
Saw Tar at the cinema when it came out. As someone who is partial to a bit of interior design and mid century modern furniture, I was obsessed both by the Berlin apartment she shared with her partner and the small bolt hole she used in order to work in solitude.
Really intense film though.
Past Lives is a beauty. Just seen Priscilla - very good though the last part seemed rushed. The actor playing Priscilla Presley knocks it out the park.
Saw May December - your mileage may vary, but fantastic performances from Julianne Moore, Natalie Portman, & Charles Melton (who nearly steals the show). Todd Haynes does this thing where he plays with soap opera tropes and I think it works here in spite of the heavy handed theme music (nicked from Michel Legrand’s The Go-Between)…
Just watched Anatomy Of A Fall at the cinema. Amazing. What a film. Superb performances all round and leaves you needing to make your own decision about what might have happened.
It’s not for rent as far as I know. There was a version on You Tube once. The Director had major licensing issues with the soundtrack when it first appeared and I believe is still trying (again) for the funding for a full release. Might be worth contacting him directly: Winstan Whitter. It has been showing in a few places recently.
We took the kids over Xmas, I thought it would be another Hollywood cash-in but it was great - Simon Farnaby strikes again (Horrible Histories, Ghosts, Paddington)
Simon Farnaby has just got one of those faces and voices that makes me laugh without him doing anything, just watched him in The Detectorists as Art, the Garfunkle-alike, the funniest character in it.
