It Follows is great!
When Evil Lurks is currently on my radar. A friend has seen it and rated it massively
Oh yes! I’m in.
Marshawn Lynch is hilarious in pretty much everything. Quite a wild life that man is living.
Yeah I liked bottoms. Mental ending.
Caught the 4K re-release of Stop Making Sense last night. Had some proper goose bump moments - what a film. Carried on a family tradition as I went to see it with my Dad in 1984 when it first came out, and last night took my 16 yr old son to see it. He loved it.
The only gripe I have involved a guy sitting behind us with his missus who insisted on singing along to every fucking song in a flat monotone that I just couldn’t ignore. The cinema wasn’t very full, so it wasn’t a noisy audience but this guy just had to get involved. I knew he wasn’t a real fan cos he didn’t know the lyrics to the tracks from Fear Of Music or the Tom Tom Club track (haha). My inner Larry David was wanting to turn around and tell him to shut the fuck up, but I didn’t want to (A.) embarrass my son or (B.) be that party pooper.
When Naive Melody was approaching I was thinking “I love this song and this guy is just going to murder it for me.” Sure enough, when it started I could hear him humming the melody and then he came in too early with the opening line. I had to turn around, look at him and shake my head at this point, but he was oblivious. Why didn’t I just move, I hear you say? I suggested that to my son, but he liked the seats we had. Oh well, I just noticed it’s on at the Imax next week, so might have to see it there to really enjoy it without distractions.
Also, anybody who wears strong cologne or perfume to a film needs taking out the back and given a dust up.
My youngest is getting into Talking Heads big time and he went to see it a few weeks back and was on the phone after buzzing about it. Definitely a proud Da moment. I rarely play records anymore so posted him my Talking Heads/Tom Tom Club collection.
I have digital copies and would rather they were giving joy.
I turned round once and scolded a family for making noise, and it turned out they had a severely disabled son.
I couldn’t have been more mortified.
Past Lives … lovely stuff, very poignant.
“Anatomy of a fall” is very, very good. Strong acting (incl. the dog) and a story that keeps you shifting your perceptions and opinions to the last frame - and beyond.
I enjoyed the Killer but it is very, very slight feeling.
Hmm. Didn’t rate it that much. The courtroom scenes are some of the least realistic I’ve actually ever seen, the prosecutor was a total arse, determined to win at all costs no matter what the truth was?
The argument was the only decent bit for me. Some good acting but ponderously slow - there was at least 40 mins at the beginning of pure exposition with no reason.
Can’t help but feel it’s being hyped (the trailer is one of the most misleading I’ve seen since the trailer for Under the Skin )
Past lives. Beautifully shot, very sweet, awkward in places… oh and and that ending!
Love Greta Lee, she was great in Russian Doll not heard of Past Lives, will keep an eye out.
She’s fantastic
Strong recommendation if you’re in Hackney on Sunday night.
Just seen godzilla minus one. Loved it. Has a proper story, much more than just a big monster flick. Go see it.
Saw this over the weekend was pretty divided about it. But saying that it’s rare I like a modern horror.
