Going to see Killers of the Flower Moon this afternoon.
I’d love to see it, but 3.5 hours is a bit much for me. Be interested to know if it flies by though
Do films really need to be that long? I feel 2 hours is about right…
The Conversation: 1 hour 53 minutes
Warriors: 1 hour 33 minutes
Badlands: 1 hour 34 minutes
Easy Rider: 1 hour 35 minutes
Ipcress File: 1 hour 49 minutes
Airplane:1 hour 28 minutes
I rest my case!
i’m going tonight! no spoilers please
A real bugbear of mine that, absolutely no need for films to be that length, puts me off watching a lot of them.
It’s the streamers’ fault. Since people will watch at home and they can pause and play at will, directors have gone nuts with film length. In some cases lazily so IMO - Oppenheimer could’ve probably been at least 40 mins shorter with no detriment to the message.
Nice one
I’m assuming @chavikus is now deep into his 3.5 hr marathon so it won’t be a spoiler to say KOTFM is far too long. Every scene is drawn out and there are too many scenes in the first place.
I agree it feels exactly like a 6 part streaming production.
And it’s an arrogant approach from the Director. Sure, offer a “Directors Cut” but what have you learnt in 50+ years of film making if not to tell a story in less than 2 hours?
It didn’t fly by! It was pretty hard work in the middle tbh. I’d wait for Netflix!
Thanks for taking one for the team. I will definitely wait for it on Netflix. I’ll probably watch it in two or three sittings. 3.5 hours is way too long for me.
I just got back from watching it and I agree. Way too long. And slow, which is a pity, I was expecting more. De Niro scared the shit out of me, though.
Again, I think directors are getting too self-indulgent and even lazy I’d say. I’d say it’s more difficult - or a bigger achievement - to make a great 1.5h movie than a great 3h movie.
Exactly. It’s called ‘editing’.
Tarantino has forgotten how to edit years ago.
Nobody to tell them “actually this is at least half an hour too long”
Or “ one and a half hours too long” in the case of KOTFM!
It’s coming to AppleTV+ once the cinema run is over. That being said, I’m going tomorrow night
Just back from seeing KOTFM.
Phew, its long. Too long? Probably. Is it a bad film? No, its very good. Although strangely I didnt feel the scenes were too long, and they all exist to serve the story. Admittedly my attention wavered a couple of times and my eyes glazed over, but mostly I found it pretty compelling. Essentially if you’re not a huge Scorcese fan and can’t deal with a 2hr+ cinema sitting, its definitely one to catch at home.
The list of long films at the end surprised me…
I really enjoyed It follows. Looks like there’s a sequel in the works, same director.
They Follow.
Ubes excited!
