4K restoration of Farewell My Concubine in a mostly Mandarin-speaking packed house.
Hadn’t seen since college days…incredible.

Obsession … 5 stars. A cracker! Don’t read up about it before you go.
Anyone seen Backrooms yet? Sounds great and really positive on The Rest is Entertainment podcast
Want to see it. Also Obsession.
My Kids, 18 and 20 have seen both, and they both preferred Obsession to say the least.
Think I’ll go see obsession tomorrow! I watched Tuner last week and thoroughly enjoyed it
Yeah, I saw it last week at HOME , really enjoyed it.
I didn’t read up on it beforehand and wasn’t entirely sure what was going on. Some people comment that the storyline is a bit lacking, it makes up for it viscerally.
It’s a bit Lynchian in ways.
Soundtrack, sound and location are good, there’s also a scene that features a legendary music equipment extra.
It’s the first Kane Parsons film i’ve seen, have you seen anything else he’s done?
I haven’t, isn’t he more of a YouTube guy? They went into a fair bit of depth on The Rest is Entertainment podcast. Really need to get to the cinema to see it but most of the showings are in the evening which I struggle to get to
Obsession. " Just be normal, Nikki". Sadly, for Bear that was never going to be a possibility. Brilliant take on the Midas story.
Saw it on Saturday. Incredible that it’s by a 20 year old. I’d definitely recommend it and not to read reviews before. I saw it with my 17yo daughter and the cinema was mostly kids under 25, and they sat in total silence and absorbed what is essentially an 80s Art House flick. I left thinking the kids are OK …
Obsession was filmed in our friends house weirdly - before it sadly went in the fires. My mates kids wouldn’t believe me till I showed them a photo tonight.
Backrooms was teriffic. 4/5 liminal spaces. Second @jolyon was pretty sweet to see in a house full of zoomers sitting rapt. Great score as well. Worth a trip to the cinema.
Managed to see it on Friday morning and thought it was brilliant. Had some thoughts on what it was about but looking on line I am way off ![]()
Had a row of Gen Zs in front of us munching the loudest snacks imaginable.
I liked it, stellar cast and great sets, but it definitely felt like a movie of a meme at times.
The next morning my son took me through the list of different theories / backstories - eye opening!
That really rips my knitting at the cinema that, people munching loudly or rustling crisp packets etc
I think I’ve said this before but the absolute low point was a couple eating a fucking burger and chips during Zone of Interest.
An actual war crime
I had someone next to me open their laptop and work on a excel spreadsheet. I told him to close it which he did but then opened it up again 5 min later. I got shirty and he walked to the front row where he continued to work. A cinema in canary wharf so shouldn’t have been surprised.
