The Picture House – A Cinema Thread

Thank you, just checked some reviews on IMDB and almost everyone who’s read the book confirms it to be a bad adaptation, so I’ll be patient and wait until it seeds my way in any kind of form

That’s a shame. I have no skin in the book game but it’s always disappointing when the film gets the book wrong…

I liked Project Hail Mary. Although I dont think I really had the emotional connection that I was supposed to have to the central relationship, which is the crux of the film

Some nice cardigans and hats though

I saw The Drama this morning and thought it was excellent, I’m far too old to really understand who Zendaya is she was really good. It constantly keeps you guessing and the pacing of it is absolutely perfect. Great film.

I thought it was cute, and I liked it. Was I emotionally devastated / wrung out? Not in the slightest.

I enjoyed it. Sparked lots of discussions!

Just watched The Drama. Meh… good idea but execution is disastrous. Woody Allen would make good film based on this plot.

From last two weeks I can recommend trilogy Sex Dreams Love, especially Sex and Love.

Finally watched Tampopo. What a gem of a film :sparkles:

Argentinian film Delinquents is a bliss also.

Watched also Project Hail Mary, it’s ok for kids.

I liked The Drama. I thought its editing style was great. Also genuinely laugh out loud funny, not easy to pull off given the seriousness of the ‘admission’. Dont think I’ve squirmed as much in the cinema for years.
Not convinced by the final scene but one to ponder on

First date with my wife was a Tampopo screening. Whenever I’m sick and making food she brings up the housewife vignette. Top film.

Sorry, Baby (2025)

Haven’t read anything about this film before watching and I was pretty surprised what a wonderful film it is since I haven’t any expectations.
So well written, pace and rhythm, diallogues, characters, emotion and humour in strange moments. Amazing!

Went to see Rose of Nevada last night, which was followed by a Q&A with Mark Jenkin, hosted by Stewart Lee.

I loved Bait but wasn’t really into Enys Man. This sits perfectly in between the two imo. It was great, the cinematography is incredible - loads of high contrast / almost trippy colour and the grain from the film - and overdubbed of course.

Mad that this actually works… I watched Radio On that I was recommended. Pretty dark but very stylish UK film I’m sure many of you know…

INSANE! Surely this won’t work for long… haha

It works but I think it’s basically just redirecting you all sorts of dodgy streams? I tried a couple and was hit with ads and pop ups. Good trick though

Just saw The North at the cinema. Brilliant film about two friends walking the Cape Wrath trail. Highly recommended.
