One battle after another. Definitely getting a bit of fanboy traction. Good but definitely all aboard the hype train.
Felt like PTA does Tarantino playing it a little straighter. Wanted more Benicio’s Sensai and less Leo channeling Lebowski.

We loved it as well. DiCaprio certainly rose to the occasion. In terms of Lebowski, I felt he was sort of doing a hybrid of the Dude and Walter…the lackadaisical stoner (complete with roachclip) Dude combined with Walter’s sticking it to the Man.
Action scenes, particularly the car chases were so visceral and real.
Lots and lots to think about. Complex characters and decisions. A proper film for adults. Also it was funny as hell.

Just back from OBAA, saw it on IMAX which was a ride, car chase/roller coaster was a bit vomit inducing, not sure it was worth over double to watch on the very big screen though.
7/10 White Russians.

One Battle After Another.
Lots to love (Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Chase Infiniti, set-pieces, soundtrack, car chases) but it did feel like it outstayed its welcome a bit. At the same time I’m not sure quite what could’ve been cut. As noted by @J_C , a very Tarantino PTA movie.
Will no doubt clean up at the Oscars.

That car chase immediately brought to mind standing in a cine180 at Alton Towers in the 80’s, swaying around and ducking and screaming as a projection of a giant roller coaster was played on the screen.

Finally watched Banshees of Inisherin on the plane back from London and really enjoyed it. So well written. Great stuff from Barry Keoghan in addition to leads. This was days after seeing Gleeson on stage, just an astounding amount of charisma for one individual to manifest. Got home and rewatched Seven Psychopaths only to be reminded how good of an actor Sam Rockwell is. Probably watch something he’s in tonight…

I enjoyed OBAA a lot too.
A long movie which zipped by for me. PTA has waved away any comparisons to the immigration issue currently playing out in the US but I thought it was impossible not to think of that throughout. Not sure its deserving of all the hype, people like to get carried away dont they, but it’s definitely one of the standout films of the year. I wanted more Del Toro too

A weekend of genius movies here… Klute, Network (that one literally tells the future from the late 70s) and then the PTA film in the imax. How good is that, Best thing I’ve seen in ages. Oh and also Three Days Of The Condor which was ok. Redford dressed super well but not the best film… Faye Dunaway though…

I’ve been a Carpenter nut since my teens. He hasn’t really made a great film since “They Live” in 1988 but that run from AP13 to They Live is incredible. I must have seen EFNY 100 times, The Thing 50 times. Don’t sleep on Starman and Christine.

Me and a few mates went to “An Evening With John Carpenter” in Edinburgh a few years ago. It’s was great, he was on keyboards and played all his scores and did a bit of chat in between. Was great night!

Watched The Fog last Night after reading the comments here. It was great. Thanks! Horrors aren’t usually my thing, but I can feel a John Carpenter period coming on. As an added bonus it was filmed around Point Reyes which we know well, so lots of great memories of camping trips and riding.

Always wondered why Paul Thomas Anderson uses the Haim gals, apparently their Mum was his Art teacher. For me they are the worst thing about his films, Liquorice Pizza being the pinnacle, unwatchable to me.

Baffling to me how she was nominated for Golden Globes best actress for LP, just thankful she not in Inherent Vice, one of my top 10. Maybe I’ll give LP another go.
