The Picture House – A Cinema Thread

Yes it’s pretty spectacular and well worth seeing. Agree with Jason that it loses its way a bit, but there’s one scene so brilliant that it’s worth the price of admission on its own.

It is all about that scene. I wanted more of that and less… of the other :joy:

I watched Sinners last night. I liked it, maybe not as much as I’d hoped. I didnt have such an issue with the 3rd act. I guess I knew what was coming, and I’m not a big horror guy at all.

I did feel thought it had more than a little in common with From Dusk Til Dawn

Saw this last weekend. One of those that would be awful if it were an American film–the protagonist would throw himself into the cheesemaking contest and emerge tempered and redeemed–after winning, natch. I love how Totone remained a shit throughout even if there was some maturity. And yeah Comte is one of the greats. We popped a vin jaune to go with the cheese just before enjoying the film…

Here’s mine.

100 watched and over 300 in my ever growing watch list. A fair few added from this thread recently.

Apparently if you use the paid version, it tells you which platforms every film on your watchlist is available on.

Had an account for a while, but never really go on it - so a good prompt to start adding some stuff : )

Watched Ballad of Wallace Island last night with my wife, sister-in-law and mother-in-law.
All three in floods of tears at the end.
: )

sweet film.

Went to see Lollipop last night. Based on director Daisy-May Hudson’s experiences with her own family. Very Ken Loach, shades of Fishtank, Aftersun, and I couldn’t decide whether to cry or get angry at the injustice of it all. Extraordinary performances especially by Posy Sterling and Tegan-Mia Stanley Rhoads.

Wine and cheese sounds like a great reason/excuse to rewatch. Where did you stream it?

Watched V for Vendetta yesterday. Very timely all things considered. I thought it was really good. There’s also a great podcast on it via What Went Wrong which made me want to watch it.

Enjoyed Nicholas Cage’s performance in Dream Scenario. Good watch, kinda runs out of legs in terms of a cohesive story but definitely works on many levels. A24 production, should be on Netflix.

I was really into the comics in the 80s. Brilliant if you can be bothered to track them down. Written as a comment on Thatcherism.

AppleTV - this app is a lifesaver for seeing where stuff is showing. I think you can set it to your region, too.

28 Years Later - loved the first half, the second half is a complete dog’s breakfast. I had high hopes too.

Been hearing a lot of people saying similar. Gutted. Still going to see it though.

28 Days later had similar vibes. Maybe they’ve used the same template.

Possibly one for the small claims court, but I was supposed to be an extra as one of the alpha runners but couldn’t make the shooting days as my wife was away at a training course and couldn’t get anyone to look after our kids

Yes agreed. It’s not as woeful as 28 Weeks Later at least.
