All of them seemed to be galloping around without a stitch on …
One of my all time favourites
Mountainhead. Pitch perfect horrifying tech bro satire. Not an easy watch but a great one.
Alan Moore is still a fascinating man.
I think that the last episode of Succession was my fill of that annoying dialogue. It might be to Jesse Armstrong’s merit that be manages to write such cringey and completely horrible sounding clueless billionnaire characters with their own language so well, but I didn’t see much new in that movie vs. Succession. I hope he moves on to other types of things soon.
28 years later. I can see why people might be dissapointed with it but I really enjoyed it. Thought Ralph Fiennes was top.
Sounds like a narrow escape for me in that case …
Finally got round to seeing this last night - both halves did feel like two separate films but overall, I think I enjoyed it - still unsure about the last 2 minutes so will have to see how it pans out in the next one …
I saw it last night too….i enjoyed it I think. In a way some it was quite funny in the 2nd half - the very last scene though, did not see that coming.
Same here - it kind of makes sense when you read about the rationale behind it, but it definitely came out of nowhere …
Not Wes Anderson’s greatest but by no means his worst.
We really enjoyed it this evening and are going to bed smiling.
Rewatched this last night. Farrell puts in a shift and Fiennes role could have been left as a voice heard over the phone. Just as good as it was first time around though.
28 Years Later. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Insane jumps in mood and tone that it just about gets away with. Yes, the punky, anarchic energy of the first half is more successful, but I don’t think it could have sustained that.
Kudos to Danny Boyle and Alex Garland for making such a wilfully British movie. Be interesting to see how it plays in the rest of the world.
If nothing else, very very creative filmmaking with no shortage of ideas and no compunction about throwing them all out there.
7 bloody backstraps out of 10
Best Wes Anderson I’ve seen in a while.
He was out Wes’ing himself at one point.
Got very strong Detectorists vibes from this (which is only a good thing).
Couldn’t help but admire Charles’ hifi set up as well.
I’ve been mulling it over for the past week since I saw it, and I agree 100% with this take. Its only grown as a better film for me in that time. The last two minutes are fucking wild and when I left the cinema at first I thought it had ruined it for me, but I think you have to allow them a chance to see how that situation develops. Alex Garland and Danny Boyle know exactly what they were doing with that scene. Thought the young lad was excellent.
This is a really good interview with Danny Boyle he talks about that ending and the next two films. Its behind a paywall but well worth a listen
Last night was a toss up between The Shrouds and the re-re-booted Jurassic Park film. I decided to give myself a night off pretension and went for the summer block buster.
Big mistake. It’s shit. Boring, tired and annoying, even with my very limited expectations. The franchise should just be left to go extinct.
So, a real dinosnore?
Is 28 Years Later the biggest trailer misrepresentation to actual film bait and switch since Babylon Zoo’s Spaceman edited for the Levis ad, then the crushing disappointment of hearing the actual song?
