It’s a good bit of entertainment, but you can’t help but reflect on how much Russell Crowe absolutely owned the first one.
Definitely peak Crowe, just a burning ball of rage ready to absolutely wipe out anyone who gets in his way.
Conclave
Very much a men whispering in dark corridors type of movie but don’t let that put you off. I found it to be riveting. Who knew the selection of a new Papacy could provide such drama. Raph Fiennes continues to be one of my favourite actors, and he holds this together as the troubled Dean charged with overseeing the Conclave
Looking forward to this.
There was a great interview/discussion with Fiennes, Lithgow and Tucci in the Guardian last month - goes way off topic and was much deeper than I would have expected for a promotional thing:
Top 3s of 2024 anyone?
For me
- Anora
- Perfect Days
- The Outrun
- The Zone of Interest
- Perfect Days
- The Substance
Zone of Interest
Perfect Days
Holdovers
Zone of Interest
The Outrun
Sisters with Transistors (not a 2024 film, but I saw it this year )
I had Holdovers at 3 but thought it was released 2023, but I remember now it was 2024 in the UK!
Same for Perfect Days I think.
All of Us Strangers
The Zone of Interest
Civil War
Yeah Zone of Interest was amazing. Not seen lots of these which will bring lots of Christmas viewing… thank you!
Shout out to Evil does not Exist also. Watched it twice. Recommended.
All Of Us Strangers
Zone Of Interest
Strange Darling
Zone of Interest was the best made and most, I dunno, “important” film I saw, but I just can’t say I enjoyed it in any normal sense.
Agreed 100% I’m still traumatised.
Lots of really disturbing films that stayed with me this year
Civil War
The Settlers
The Holdovers - which was advertised as a comedy but I found it unbearably sad, but that may be because I’m also a cantankerous man of a certain age …
Zone of Interest
Anora
Conclave
Love Lies Bleeding
