The Picture House – A Cinema Thread

That sequence where the battle rig is attacked is absolutely mind-boggling. So inventive. But don’t go expecting subtlety!

Just back from Furiosa. Action scenes are wild! I thought Chris Hemsworth stole the show though

He was great! My wife said she didn’t realise it was him for about half an hour :joy: The power of a prosthetic nose.

Went to see the rewilding movie last night, sat next to some posh old people who obviously don’t get out much and kept going HA! at anything even slightly witty (and it’s definitely not a comedy). It was like a Fast Show sketch.

Was it any good, I’m keen to see it as I found the book made a lot of sense to me in what it proposed

Nicely shot, but won’t tell you anything the book doesn’t.

Labour’s candidate in Clacton against Farage is absolutely loving it.

Went to Knepp this morning just to complete the set, lovely day out

Great series of classics at the Prince Charles Cinema in London.

Will definitely be watching this one in 4K. Love it.

Challenging film, watched on a Sunday night back in the day after a big one. All sorts of regret.

Kinds of Kindness. I’m not sure what I think. Totally fucking out there!

Was set to see Kinds of Kindness but then decided I couldn’t face the deadpan dream-logic horror, so opted for A Quiet Place: Day One.

Way better than the second instalment but not as good as the first. A slightly uneasy marriage of large scale apocalyptic world-building and something more woozy and intimate. Held together for me by the brilliant Lupita Nyong’o.

I did exactly the same, ended up choosing the 90 mins of quiet place over 2.5h+ of kinds of kindness, wise choice and I was home in time for extra time in the Portugal match.

Longlegs. Of course, nowhere near as good as the hype or clever marketing campaign would suggest. Still a great deal of freaky fun.

The third act is a bit of a letdown but I’d still recommend seeing it in the cinema.

The Bikeriders is great, Hardy and Comer both excellent.

Saw Longlegs as well. Won’t divulge any plot points (in line with the excellent marketing surrounding this film). Sound design was on point and some genuinely creepy moments that got through even my deadened, desensitised soul. It’s also funny in parts - if being shocked is funny to you. My mate and I exchanged a few big grins at the bonkers affectations and direction of Nic Cage. Definitely a big screen watch, the look of it is fantastic.

Deadpool & Wolverine was a lot of fun. Complete pisstake out of Marvel and Superhero films in general. Extremely meta and 4th wall breaking. Dick jokes every other minute. Cameos galore

Longlegs was a bit of a stinker. A24 hype machine? The dialogue was abysmal, we laughed out loud in a couple of places. Was like an episode of Scooby Doo :grimacing:

The trailer for Alien: Romulus looks good.
