thanks for sharing these.
Well there are lots of summer spots but art, nature and history cant be like Ibiza
Had a few lovely days at Benirras on our last visit. Nothing like that sunset and then a restaurant with a cold beer, fresh fish and good friends.
Visited Ibiza in October once, over Halloween weekend I believe, for a chilled holiday. Rented a car and explored that way. Had beaches to ourselves, albiet with early sunsets. Didn’t hit any clubs - I don’t think they were even open at that time of year. I would visit again, clubbing or not, because it’s a stunning place. Croatia has provided those types of holiday for me, altough I’m living in New Zealand now so not sure when I’ll be back to either…
I have been to Ibiza, maybe 35 times. It could be more. I have always loved it;i I was a young man in his 20s when I first stepped off the plane at the two carousel airport and was hit by the heat. And then as you take your first ride out the airport it opens up. The sky the bluest, blue. The earth, deep orange, the pines so green…The first ever swim in those clear warm waters and the majesty of the sunsets. The first taste of real iberican food…30 years on the love affair continues. I havent mentioned clubs or music once and on some trips I barely saw daylight and always saw sunrise. I do not have a hippy bone on my body, but some places have magic coursing through them. Over the years the island has been invaded and conquered time and again- the phoenicians, the romans, eurotrash, the brits- but shrugs it off. It will always be there for you if you explore and treat it with the repsect it deserves. Peace
We go to the island most years, mostly 4 or 5 nights in September these days but a week if possible.
Los Enamorados is a great spot! We drove up for a day round Portinax and had lunch there. We were fortunate to be guests of a mate who had a boat hire and moored just off Formentera for a day, it was heaven. Other food places we return to often are La Paloma just up from Santa Gertrudis and Can Domingo in the south. Many a drunken night up the Dalt Villa and down under the ramp at La Bodega…loads and loads of beaches by car the list goes on.
Always a special place for us and we’ll be back as soon as is practical.
It was ace. Went to the one on Obonjan after the Unabombers sold it and it was a farce.
Same company bought Festival No6 and fucked that up too.
Love International is ok but there are a few more bum bag bro’s than EE.
Love International is amazing (biased obviously haha)
Resident Advisor djs. More or less same line up is everywhere. Great PR success.
Is it on this year then? I would love to go again if it was. Need to make it to one of the early morning sessions and stop being a fanny.
Visited for the first time 2 years ago. Didn’t do any clubbing, it was a work trip for my fiancé. Stayed on the west side of the island and absolutely loved it.
Had a day trip to formentera and wow. Stunning beaches. I don’t think I’ve seen nicer in Europe.
Can’t wait to go back and see the rest of the island.
I hate to tell you this but I’ve lost my copy of Stop Bajon
Isn’t that instant dismissal from the Balearic Beach Club?
Fully. It’s actually quite upsetting haha.
I was evil then
It was 1990. I went to Barcelona for the first time with 2 goths (Yeah! I know …) friends for 3 weeks but we get bored after 15 days and as I was evil I suggested to them to take the boat and go to Ibiza. They didn’t really know anything about it. So I sold them a story … hippies dancing in the country to rock songs and so and so … and said nothing about house or techno.
We took the boat and off to Ibiza. Everything was sold out and we were about to sleep on the beach but our chance was a woman that offer us an appartment in central San Antonio for quite nothing. It was woah!
I manage to take the goths to the bars of San Antonio and got drunk by drinking too much sprite with white wine. They were impressed because some guys were doing stage diving from the bar counter in the crowd during a happy monday or new order song to tell you how much it was packed. Brits everywhere. It was like a little britain. How funny for us frenchies.
We got some invitations for clubs Amnesia, Ku I think.
It was awesome then and a dj from Paris Yann Sun who played the Rex club “space” nights where I was a regular played that night. It was mostly hardcore techno and rave from the 90’s and some new beat.
Only the goths didn’t dance at all and were bored to death by the music so it wasn’t top fun. You know when you don’t share the thing with your friends …
Anyway, we enjoy the beaches, the sea, the cheap food, the sun … yes even the goths. It was my victory! I think we went to cafe del mar not even knowing what it was back then.
We manage to go to the clubs again but my friends refused to go to space an do afters so … we got back to Barcelona and back to grey Paris.
Once I got stranded outside of Pacha due to a guest list fuck-up. Someone we knew turned up with <does double take> Gary Davies, who ushered everyone in smooth as you like. We were then led through the backrooms of the club (balearic Goodfellas style) to emerge in the VIP bit.
It was like some weird dream.
The most concerning part of this story is the wine and sprite
You could get thrown out of the BBC and France for such behaviour…
Ohhhhhhhh Gary Davies!!
I’ve never been either - it’s a weight off to admit it!!
I did however watch a A Short Film About Chilling when it was first broadcast on 1990 and also taped it (TDK I think)… Not sure if that earns any points?!
There was a programme on about Ibiza probably late '90s focusing on some of the clubs (Ch4 again I think) and it not longer appealed.
