Also i hate to be the bearer of bad news but we’re closed on Wednesdays too. I needs my “weekend”, sorry!
See you on a Thursday soon then.
I have heard this rumour about Snowboy recording Craig Charles’ mixes before, and forgive my ignorance here…
Craig Charles has dj mixes? Or does this mean Snowboy records mixes that Craig Charles plays when he is djing live?
Also… Snowboy records mixes? Like mixtapes? I know he is a dj, but does he mix? I thought he just faded records in and out, old school style, which is what i always assumed Craig Charles does…
Can someone put me out of my misery here please?
This is what I’ve always took the rumours to mean
Having dinner at a place in Tarrytown last night and this older brasilian guy owns the place and puts on Tim Maia as the place is winding down so I told him how much I enjoy Tim, and then the stories started. Apparently they came over together from Brasil in the 60’s and lived together for a few years before “Tim had to leave”.
Well, he really did live there!
How does he operate a radio studio if he can’t manage two decks and a mixer? He must have some help there too
I was in a Facebook discussion about CC where he was being slated and Snowboy chipped in to say he produced the show with him for 3 years - Snowboy didn’t choose the music - and CC was asked to do a show by the BBC and he said he’d only do it if it could be a funk and soul show. Plus, was saying what a joy CC was to work with. I still don’t like his show but, it did raise him in my estimations a bit.
Especially after ‘Naughty Friday’
Just googled that, you learn something new every day!
me too! I remember reading about it in Popbitch at the time with the additional detail that he was also masturbating furiously the whole time
Must of been a Friday!
Hmm, he is clearly hitting play on the bad “Cars” cover after the bad “Rainbow” cover in that video, which in turn inspired me to look up Paris Hilton djing

Not the most inspiring of blends, but she is very very clearly actually doing the mixes and they are in time and on beat. I am not that fussed about the fact they are synced by whatever program she is using, cos all that music is basically exactly to the bpm anyway, it seems like a waste of time to even have to bother moving the pitch fader to 1.6% to push a 120bpm track to 122bpm or whatever.
So why do people spread these rumours about people not being able to mix? Mixing is pretty easy.
Semi related, I once had the dubious pleasure of supporting Steve Aoki. It was just before he blew up, so he was spraying champagne over the crowd, but not throwing cake, or riding an inflatable dinghy quite yet.
He was friendly enough, though clearly didn’t want to engage anyone in conversation (fair enough tbh) but the music was absolutely god awful, he also had all of his cds (this was a while ago) bpm matched, so he would just hit play at the right time and then push the volume fader up. If they were slightly out of time, so be it, they would stay slightly out of time until he had taken the previous song out. Nobody seemed to really notice or care.
The whole thing was pretty amusing to observe, I ended up just questioning whether it was my place to judge these people who were clearly having the time of their lives to bad electro house remixes of Bohemian Rhapsody etc.
I’ve heard there are quite a few on the Business Techno circuit who have all the tracks re-recorded to 120bpm.
It’s a depressing thought, but it makes sense i guess.
Pitch controls in pristine condition. Never used.
I worked on some music with a DJ duo and they went from never touching decks to DJing quite a big show in a week. Didn’t miss a beat or plug in their headphones.
Just sounds boring as hell to me. Still, I guess it gives them more time to do a silly dance or chuck a gateaux
The point is to be seen. The music is irrelevant.
