I really like this album by him https://www.discogs.com/master/277079-Silvio-Rodríguez-Rabo-De-Nube-Volumen-I

Random three.

Think I bought this in rough trade west on a lunchtime binge shortly after it came out.

Could have been picked up in selectadisc before they moved to their current location. Probably early 2000s when I was bagging all the classic hip hop I missed first time round

Possibly got this in Soho or west London when it came out. Pilooski in his heyday.

Agreed, I have that one too.

A lot of Jazz people have recorded his songs, especially Charles Lloyd (who did a great version of Rabo de Nube) and Bobo Stenson who has recorded amazing versions of El Mayor and Olivia which is my favorite melody of his.

Still have the Discogs from before I sold everything and started anew.

I will push random item until I get a new one.

Bought this one in Miami at Sweat. I remember this because I was listening to a Bionic Boogie mix and thought that it was going to be super expensive. Was in the bargain bin for $3. I don’t own this anymore.

Bought this in Zurich. I remember Gritsch being very good. I don’t own this anymore.

https://www.discogs.com/release/1006498-山下達郎-Spacy

Bought this from a store in Beverley, MA. No real connection as to why I have it but I had a burgeoning City Pop(ish) collection brewing at one point. I also don’t own this anymore.

Last attempt. I love this balearic-adjacent bit of mind-melting from the incredible Isolee. One that I would consider rebuying.

This is like a Sadar Bahar, Grusane, Geology classic, and not easy to just fit into a set, but it’s a cool album with a nice message. Mine’s the reissue.

Great record! Better Days and Time Tunnel are my favorites but the title track is cool too.

Early 80s ambient new age, created on digital rather than analogue synthesisers. Immersive mellow dronescapes. Quality design and photography, evocative prose on the insert. The type of thing that makes collecting records interesting.

DJing with my friend Matt sometime in the early 2000’s he played Jan’s Blues off this album, my friend Matt was really into Folk-Funker style tracks and Jan’s Blues fits into that category I guess, and seeing as the night we were djing was in a small bar without a dancefloor we played loads of odd/obscure bits.
So I bought a copy of the album in eBay and when the record arrived and I gave it a play I found it had another amazing track the incredibly soulful The Reincarnation of Emmalina Stearns which remains one of my favorite tracks to this day.

”Bottom feeder” I was rifling thru some 50p 12 inches and £1 books in a shop this morning and I kept thinking of and laughing to myself about that term’s suitability for what I was doing and the bargain hunting attitude!

Randomiser threw up a good one today; Fumio Miyashita - Journey to Space

I think I picked this up at a record fair perhaps, anyway it is a lovely thing to listen to.

This is easily the most valuable record in my collection. I was lucky enough to stumble on it at a market during my four years living in São Paulo (2005-2009). It’s a wonderful tune from the same era as his lovely 1975 LP - I think with Azymuth members among his backing band (correct me if I’m wrong please). Does that gentle uplifting Brazilian swinging groove so well.

This is my new favorite thread!

Another three from the collection.

One side of P-funk disco and one side of P-funk 2 step. Great value for your money on a nice and neat 7 inch.

That’s a great find. I’ve been after the 7” for ages.

I finally resigned myself to the fact that I might never come across an original, so I settled for its appearance on this album, which I think was recommended by someone in the TP Forum. The sound and pressing are decent.

Picked up another copy of this for peanuts recently, so swings and roundabouts.

Must be Brazilian roulette this week, here’s mine today. I found this at a rubbish recycling place which used to be good for picking up records but has now inevitably got some dealer paying off the staff to put things aside for him. Never mind, I got a bunch of early 60s OG Bossa Nova LPs there one visit, this among them. Very groovy and I love the sleeve cover.

Huge coincidence but my girlfirend was out on saturday at a baby shower so I had some time to myself, and to put this on and play it LOUD!

If you like shoegaze rock and don’t know this band or this album, then do yourself a favor and look them up. A total classic, just as good as MBV’s Loveless in my opinion, as is their second record called The Buried Life.

Pretty sure I picked this up because it was in a funk 45 top ten from Gilles in an early Straight No Chaser. (Might try and dig them out for one of the other threads.)

Makes me think of Cock Happy at Lauderdale House. A hot summer’s night. Drinking in the pub opposite beforehand, stashing the branded pint glass in a bush and then retrieving afterwards to take home. Being drunk enough to ask Gilles for a request (that he actually played lol). A good night.

The going price of this is about what I paid for it in '89ish, which is more than a little galling. In ‘95 I sold a bunch of sevens that I picked up around the same time - plus a clutch of LPs - to buy an engagement ring. Fast forward to today, and most of the stuff I sold has sky-rocketed in value (eg Vibrettes’ Humpty Dump, Mighty Ryeders LP). And the things I didn’t sell have gone backwards.

Not that it’s about the value, but now that most things I offloaded have been reissued, I could’ve traded in the originals to buy more of the weird stuff I’m now into. * eye roll * I guess we’ve all got similar stories.

Took a cheap as chips punt because of the demented cover and the first album being decent groovy rock, but this is… not great haha. Still, can’t win ‘em all.
