Haven’t read a book by this John Higgs, but I am pretty sure someone from this forum already has. His books are pretty diverse in the topics covered, so I expect this episode with him and Andrew Thompson from H&S to be amusing.
His KLF book is superb. So well done.
Yeah I’ve read that a couple of times, pretty mad in it’s scope. That whole piece about Bill and Jimmy whilst shooting The White Room being told by a total stranger they’d been followed by a gun assassin sent by the Illuminati, which the guy himself had shot…
Freaked them out so much they went home ![]()
I like Questlove’s podcast. He just changed up the name and format this year, but there are tons of great episodes of Questlove Supreme with some amazing guests.
Highly recommend Conflicted if you have an interest in geopolitics, the Middle East, terrorism (state and non-state) and the histories of many of the conflicts of recent years, and those still ongoing. Some very good analysis and history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that quite a few people on both sides, who view it all with the intellectual and moral depth of a Star Wars film.
Found this episode after RA shared that there’s a comedy film being recorded based on it.
BTW it’s a pretty American take on Berghain.
Gripping. But fucking terrifying.
The Rest Is History are currently running a series on Jack The Ripper. Really good, gives a great sense of the squalor and degradation of Whitechapel at that time
its ace
Cant wait for next episode
The Fela Kuti podcast is going down well in our house…
Irish poet David Whyte with Rick Rubin. He’s very wise, he answers almost all questions by reading one of his poems or essays.
Oh right up my street.
Will listen
Fun fact, family lore says my great-great(?) grandmother was a suspect, if not officially at least suspected by local people.
I went on a Ripper tour in London and mentioned this to the guide, she was like, well, loads of people claimed to have done it. That wasn’t what I said!
One of my pods of the year:
Jah Wobble talks to scientists and Buddhist monks about bass. I didn’t understand a lot of it if I’m honest
Amazing fela kuti podcast! Loads of interviews with key people around him at the time.
Ben Cardew’s interviews are pretty good. Here’s the great Matthew Herbert pontificating about life, music and his Beatport despair
You’ve triggered me back into my on and off ripper obsession again…
This is brilliantly made- most of the docs on YouTube are either very dated or speculative
but this really sticks to known facts and gives a really good visual perspective on the murders
Rest is History have just done a 4c parter of JtRioper - v good
