Yeah, its not the same one is it ![]()
And there’s a couple of mixes of perfect pop of mine on this very site ![]()
It’s the 5am Garage Rework you need. Don’t think it’s still on Bandcamp. It was out in 2013; I guess before anyone (Madonna) knew about Bandcamp. He must have had original stems from somewhere. Anyway it’s a killer version. Shout if you can’t find it.
Was pretty much the last tune at Rotation this year, courtesy of the wonderful Kelvin Andrews
A copy would be much appreciated mate ![]()
I’m going through a bit of a Madonna phase at the moment - top five 80s Madonna songs:
- Crazy For You - theme tune for the 15 year old hormonal me.
- Borderline - teenage disco masterpiece
- Into The Groove - a combination of the above two comments.
- Live To Tell - see comment one but 16 year old me
- Open Your Heart - pop dance masterpiece
My personal top 5 80’s Madonna would require inclusion of “La Isla Bonita” which is a kind of pop wonder - interesting to read that Michael Jackson turned it down. But for pop with an emotional depth this moody one from '94 has always touched me:
Thanks ![]()
La Isla Bonita definitely number 6 on my list
One of the best Best Of’s ever

No7 on the list!
love it - i’m not a BIG madonna fan, but she’s unavoidable, so here’s my top five.
- ‘material girl’ - the drums on this are amazing, especially for what’s basically a throw-in track. i listen to it every time it plays.
- ‘borderline’ - for all the perfect pop reasons. great song, great sounds.
- ‘live to tell’ - the first time i remember her going serious, and she seriously knocks it out of the park.
- ‘justify my love’ - yes, i know she basically robbed it from ingrid chavez but holy shit, what a performance! excellent use of the PE drum loop.
- ‘ray of light’ - probably the last time she “nailed it” - she caught a blissed out, age-appropriate pop rave moment.
Can’t believe no-one has gone with Holiday yet. Just a perfect pop record and in my all time desert island top ten of all time.
Like a prayer, anyone?
Most of this thread is like “tell me I was 15 in the 80’s without calling out my age”…
But since I was also 15 in the 80’s. I’ll try to challenge myself with more recent pop gems
As recent as 5 years ago, which in pop terms is probably ancient, but on my time line this is still considered new:
Another one from Jessie Ware - this is from last year:
(I do prefer Begin Again, but this was a bigger hit, so in pop terms, it trumps)
and last one -
I don’t connect emotionally to this song (I actually love the previous two), but I think it is a pop master piece, and I do love all the reference points…
