I think pop suffered for a while when the Max Martin studios filled the charts with choreographed white rnb bubblegum which was so meticulously produced and vocal dominant that no memorable musical hooks ever emerged. Whereas I think the next gen after that were more broadminded. Certainly Harry Styles has a very good pop sensibility. But imo the definition of ‘pop’ is increasingly meaningless. Anything that makes on to the Heart playlist, or something more specific with universal appeal?

Two minutes of west coast pop perfection. But then I’m biased as my uncle sings backup…

Damn…

once again - very similar to the melancholic pop thread - there’s some of my all-time favorites in here, and there’s some stuff i wouldn’t even generously call hot garbage. but that’s how i do.

when my daughter was real little, i would play her a few pop music songs before bed - aiming for a combination of delightful earworms and cute videos. here’s a few we loved (and still do)

In perhaps what should be another thread of pop’s unlikely bedfellows, the remix of this song by future sound of London is great and worth seeking out

And this one as well
