Some tracks from his more recent albums need to be mentioned here too.
A truly lovely one below, introspective Jazz with a summer feel:
Did this strike anyone as sounding an awful lot like “Slip Away” when it came out?
Now that’s Balearic.
The only thing that would make it more balaeric would be 20 fags tucked down the side & a single shark tooth earring
He turned 71 yesterday
When they build him a statue in Kansas City, they’ll use this as the guide
Just came back from watching the man, the METH, the legend.
His latest concert is really really cool, he does a solo retrospective thing, tells a few stories, plays amazing as always, and in the end he’ll do his ableton midi one man carnival band thing which is pretty freakin cool. Worth catching if he’s ever playing your neck of…
This sounds superb
That’s the thing with Meth. You keep coming back for more
Paging Pacific Northwest Methheads: anyone going to any of these upcoming shows?
Seattle, 23-26 April
Vancouver, 27 April
Portland, 28 April
Ooh will def go if we’re in town
I went to Menorca with my family a couple of years ago and we hired a car. The pick up was off site from the airport and there was a slightly harassed local fella in his 50s who was driving the punters from the airport to the depot in a transit minibus. Me and my and my son had to sit up in the front seats with him as the van was full and when he hit the ignition “As Falls Wichita” started playing on cassette. He was absolutely thrilled that I knew it and we spent the short journey with me trying to converse in pidgin Spanish how good he was and how perfect it was for watching a Balearic Island sunset. Not to mention jockeying irate holidaymakers to the budget car hire gaff and back on loop all day,
Someone already linked the title track above, so I’ll play this one:
I’m completely new to Pat Metheny, where would be a good start?
This entire thread!
Really, if you just click on the videos here you’ll pretty much get an overview of his career. Then just see what album the video you enjoyed the most comes from and start from there.
My personal picks to start are:
Bright Size Life
Travels (Live Album with songs from the group’s first few on ECM, which are also great)
Off Ramp
80/81
Beyond the Missouri Sky
The Way Up
Thank you! that was my plan but I’ll definitely check these out first ![]()
We need a thread for 'Where do I start… '. I’ve loads of these. Don Cherry, Thomas Fehlmann etc etc
