That sounds like a whole cateogry tbh…
I am also apart from Slip Away on the Harvey H Track mix, its nice but probably enough ![]()
Good shout… Sun Ra, Captain Beefheart I got loads too.
Straight in at the deep end…Trout Mask Replica!
The man himself is touring Europe with his band Side-Eye in July. He has a date in Dublin and there are tickets left. I am tempted but my fear is with the band he will be doing the more jazz heavy solo/noodling end of his stuff which I am less fond of, rather than the more dreamy gear of the like linked in this thread..
There are UK dates as well. Anyone going to see him or been before?
Yes it will be “jazzier”, but I really really think it’s worth seeing him live at least once if you can. He’ll make it feel worth it, trust me.
Here’s a decent preview even though the current band is different:
I am going to the Barbican gig. And I reckon that even if he jazz noodles out the whole time, it will be worth it. How many other chances will I get to see him? So, I say, go for it if he is in town.
You don’t go to a Pat Metheny gig for the bantz. No words are spoken for an hour and then only to introduce the band. But that gets you right into the music which is mesmeric. As feared, there is a lot of jazz noodle, like really really classy and interesting 70s lift music. But there is also a great Thurston Moore style sonic assault duet with the brilliant drummer ( Joe Dyson), a beautiful midi effect tune which sounded like a brass instrument and the fun of trying to work out who was operating the electric xylophone. Pat’s hair is also a phenomenon in itself. And I have never been to a gig with so many encores. Glad I went.
Interestingly the last solo gig I went to was full of talking, as he was doing kind of a retrospective. But that only lasted so long before he went back to making new music which is what he does best.
