Oooh you smell nice!

Have you had your scent matched yet by a professional? It’s a fascinating process where they go through all sorts of things and try different oils on your skin etc. It’s mostly done when perfumers are creating bespoke scents for people but apparently the best scent for me and my, well sweats I guess we could describe it as, is Jo Malone - Moonlit Camomile and Byredo - Rose of No Man’s Land.

^^ I often wonder about this, if there’s some sort of litmus test you can do on your skin at various times of day and different conditions to determine which things smell subjectively better.

In short, yes.

Sounds ace. Where did you have this done?

(I know nothing about this but I liked that bit in Halston where he works with a perfumier to create a new scent)

I’ll pick up one of the books. I love learning something completely new.

Been around town today. Bought the Frederic Malle Discovery set of six fragrances to try those and tried the Tom Ford Venetian Bergamot, which is lovely. That’ll be my next purchase.

We did it at Barney’s in Boston before it closed. It was a service they offered to high end customers at all their locations in the US.

Was asking my wife last night about bespoke scents and she said that all perfumers would do this for you no problem but it’ll cost between $45k and $20k depending on who. Obviously I laughed this off and said that nobody does this and apparently it’s more common than I thought. Oh to have fuck you money.

The power of a good scent!

Just tried the new Kenzo Homme EDP. It’s a beaut. Sea salt, leather and patchouli. My next purchase. Gotta love that bottle too…

Zoom in and check out some bottles. Notably, Christian Dior Fahrenheit, Comptoir Sud Pacifique, Guerlain Vetiver. Some heavy hitters!

ooh will try this. sounds fabulous.

I miss Barneys. So many great discoveries for me there - Frederic Malle, Serge Lutens, CdG and Aesop/Shu Uemura skincare. My ex-GF’s brother worked there in the early 2000s and would nick a ton of stuff and I got hooked. Never saw the point in having a custom frag - always seemed kind of an ego thing to me.

It’s 100% ego. The same could be said about a lot that the extremely wealthy purchase.

By nick from BNY’s do you mean bring home the testers, or was is the full bottles of gratis? Must have been sweating bullets during inventory.

So many testers. Occasionally a full bottle. He was quite the fingersmith… I still have salt & pepper shakers from one of his post-Barney’s restaurant jobs :grinning:

Full bottle was probably his gratis, and his testers were signed out or he’d have been fired sharpish. Loss/prevention at Barney’s was no joke.

Sticking my head above the parapet here. I’m not sure this thread is for me but i’ve found it interesting to read.

I’ve had couple of bottles of Chanel Bleu over the past several years which were presents from my wife. I like it. Seems quite subtle. Two on the neck, one on the wrist, daily.

In my younger days i’ve used ‘Noir’ by Roberre which was a thing in the 80’s. Antaeus, Polo, Jazz and one by Geoffrey Beene called Grey Flannel. I really liked that one.

I quite like some of the True Grace candles particularly Library and Sachristy, even to the extent of getting a pack of samples and keeping one in my inside pocket like a magic tree for my body. They don’t do cologne sadly.

My mate sourced me an OG bottle for my birthday, still smells fresh and reminds me of my youth! So much so I’ve found another bottle online so that’s on route
