So what have we got in our summer rotations then?
I’m loving these atm… Profumum Roma and Annick Goutal citrus aromatic beauties.
Interesting - the only Goutal I have is Sables (“sands”) - which in the OG formulation is utterly beguiling and features a prominent immortelle / fenugreek note which in its maple syrup/spice/warmth recalls the sun in the most unexpected way possible. Are the Roma perfumes the classic Italian citrus cologne or something different?
Sables is beautiful. I’ve only had a chance to smell the later versions which don’t get as much love, but that immortelle note is truly something else isn’t it?
The Profumum’s are pretty classic. Acqua Viva is photo realistic lemon and cypress and lasts forever, which is great for a citrus forward scent.
Orangea is a little greener, sweeter and woodier.
Both amazing, but pricey AF. I only have the smaller 20ml vials.
Just got Vetiver 46 as an extremely over the top birthday gift from a dear dear friend.
Hadn’t previously smelled it, but my mate knows I love Vetyverio and grassier/greener scents in general. Vetiver is not the star of Vetiver 46, I would say it’s more nestled away. It’s there but it’s not the star. A heavier scent than I’m used to, maybe a bit 80s maybe a bit “masculine”, but it’s also got a bit of a trendy CdG-ish tip to it too. Really interesting.
I love it. It’s not what I was expecting and if it wasn’t called Vetiver 46 and I was just reading the notes on paper, I probably wouldn’t have given it any real consideration. But I’ve got it now and I love it.
I love it too. There’s def a CdG vibe going on. I get dry smokey churchy up top and then it dries into a sweeter cosier affair. Beast mode too.
My fave Le Labo is Another 13. I get magazine pages and freshly opened record sleeves.
I will investigate!
what is your take on Profumum Victrix?
It’s very green, herbal and cedary. Nice vetiver note in it too. I’m shit at describing fragrances tbh, but that’s what I got from my sample.
Seems to draw comparisons to French Lover by Frederic Malle, and I can see that but Victrix is definitely more green.
It’s really nice.
I’m off to Rome in June and hope to get to Profumum Roma to do some sampling, and ultimately spend my entire holiday allowance in 2 hours .
wicked thank you. and enjoy Profumum HQ.
Cheers.
If I’m lucky enough to bag some samples, I’ll see if I can get a Victrix for you. They might not dish them out but if they do, I’ll let you know.
I’m back to this.
Love this. Subtle fruity and floral. I get lots of violet.
I’ve only had an fb of gypsy water and I love that. Accord oud is another blinder imo. Rubbery blackberry and oud scent.
Need to investigate Byredo more.
oud wood here too! i bought it like 4 years ago and since then in love!
Reading this thread is like cologne porn…
Scent me baby!
Picked up a bottle of Terre d’Hermes at the airport. Not bad, fancied a change and something a bit cheaper.
An absolute classic. Love the grapefruity orangey woody earthiness.
Looking for some top tips…
My Acqua di Parma is down to it’s last knockings.
I love it but hate (venomously) that LVHM bought it and it’s gone up to £122.
Been wearing it for years but now’s the time to change.
So looking for something a bit more reasonable. I like that fresh citrus’y herby kind of business.
Quite like Eau Sauvage but wore that as a kid, bit of a guilty pleasure.
A few that I’m wearing this summer:
Alexandria Perfumes - Black Panther. It’s a dupe of Bvlgari’s Tygar (which is prohibitively expensive), but it’s virtually identical. Zingy grapefruit, florals and ambroxan. Great cheapie.
Goldfield & Banks - Bohemian Lime. Photorealistic lime and woods. About £120 for 100ml but if you order direct from the site and use code GOLDFIELD20 it knocks 20% off. It’s also available in a smaller, cheaper 50ml bottle.
Armani - Pour Homme is another go to. Similar to Eau Sauvage, but a bit more aromatic to me. Classic smell.
Versace - Dylan Blue. Popular and mass appealing designer fragrance, but smells great at it’s price point. Citrusy, ambery notes.
Carthusia - A’mmare. Not especially citrusy, but beachy, salty, and herbal. Lovely stuff and gorgeous bottle too.
Rochas - Eau De Rochas Homme. Ridiculously cheap dry citrus and cedar affair. Great for everyday wear. Punches way above it’s price point.
These are a little pricey but really nice…
The new MFK Aqua Media Cologne is a lovely fresh citrus and fennel.
The new Thameen Fanfare. Nice fruity citrus with a boozy vermouth twist.
Sospiro - Vibrato. Bit like Black Panther / Tygar with Ginger. Bloody lovely.
I’m sure I’m missing loads out.
