Flying out from heathrow in november, any recommendations for a cheapish (<£100) fragrance suited for the colder months that I can get in duty free ?

One that I’m enjoying at the moment is Gentleman Givenchy Reserve Privee. Iris, Chestnut, Whiskey & Woods. It’s knockout.
Perfect for autumn / winter.

Also loving Kenzo Homme Eau De Parfum. Salt, Leather & Patchouli. Another winner for the cooler weather.

Try em first though.

Sampled a few Jusbox fragrances over the weekend. Thinking of ordering the sample kit to try the others. Their fragrances are inspired by different musical genres and come in 78ml bottles with a record on the lid.

The ones I’ve tested so far are, the latest one ‘Carioca Heart’. Lemon, Peony, and Sandalwood. Unisex, leaning slightly feminine but incredibly sexy. Leaves a great trail. Inspired by Bossa Nova / Brazilian Music.

I also tried ‘Night Flow’ which blew me away. It’s a little like Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather, but less fruity and has more spice. Definitely more masculine. Inspired by Hip Hop.

Those lids though.

With the sample kit, you get your money back if you choose to get a full bottle. I’m already 78% certain I’m going to get Night Flow, so would happily do an RAOK and give away the sample kit if anyone is interested, once I’ve finished with it.

I’ve not ordered it yet, but I’ll keep you posted. If there’s enough interest, I’ll stick all the names in a hat and draw out a winner.

Ha ha! You’re not wrong. Whatever happened to those? Used to love ‘em.

Were they called Catherine Wheels or something? I used to get a pack of three from M&S at Christmas time.

You’ve also got me thinking I need a decent anise / licorice fragrance.

Not seen them in yonks, soon as saw that pic just had overwhelming taste memory of them, weird how strong scent memories can be eh.

Absolutely. Some smells instantly transport me back in time. It’s as powerful as a music memory imho.

I’ve been making my own shower gel recently. Part of the process involves blending my own essential oils, before precipitating the liquid using salt dissolved in very hot water, which makes the shower gel creamy.
I’ve noticed that the quality and stability of the essential oils is really varied. Some of the active ingredients are really volatile, so they smell great when you initially mix them, but it disappears after a few days. Do any of you know of essential oil producers or oils that you would recommend? Cheers.

Not sure if this is going to provide the answer you’re looking for, but I had a bash at making my own fragrance and body wash a year or so ago.

The importance of using the highest quality ingredients you can find within your budget, can not be understated.

For the body wash, in addition to decent essential oils I’d probably go for distilled water rather than just boiled, a good surfactant (I used one derived from coconuts - can’t remember the name), lactic acid, a preservative, and maybe some glycerin. All of these should help preserve the scent.

Totally agree with all you said there. I’m a researcher, so I can get my hands on distilled water and glycerol easily and I use these. The hot water is important with the salt because the energy from the heat causes Castille soap/oil/glycérol to emulsify and form a more creamy soap. Do you remember what source of perfume you used and were you happy with the results? I like that you can play with the different smells. Maybe I should add Sassafras oil and market it as Rise & Shine?

Not sure where you’re based, but I used a company called Carvasons here in the UK.

I’d bought some pre-blended essential oils, so I didn’t have to mix them myself. I guess I was more focused on getting decent results, than trying to make my own bespoke scent.

Hope that helps.

Thank you Sir! I’m in France, but I’ll have a wee look at the company you suggested. Have a lovely Sunday. x

It’s not the most rare, or high brow or whatever, but a recent trip through the airport and a spray of Sauvage Elixir by Christian Dior was enough to have me request it for xmas from Mrs Chris. Lasts for 24hrs and just smells divine especially around winter time

Nice one. It’s a richer, smoother take for sure.

Gentleman Givenchy Reserve Privee is great indeed. Also truly love the wanted line by Azarro (Except for the first ‘wanted’ which is ok but not a standout).
Tried Le Male elixir this weekend, really impressing IMO
