Though the other day I went to the old shop behind fortnum and mason where you can smell and buy tons of different scents and smell favourites of everyone from Bowie to Churchill and Florence nightingale. So nice
Well I’m definitely up for a sniff there next time I’m in London. Never knew this place existed. Cheers Paul.
Floris. Amazing place. I love all those really old school shops you find dotted around town, like time has stood still.
Ah right, Floris. I’ve still never been though. Jermyn Street?
I’ve got No.89 which Churchill and James Bond wore apparently. Quite a dandy rosey cologne.
Churchill seems to get mentioned a lot. Perhaps he had a few fragrances on the go in his time.
Smelling that bunch of different Profumum Roma last week really highlighted to me that no way should I ever be trusted to try and put together a custom/bespoke scent at financial cost to myself.
So many beautiful fragrances with ingredients I would ordinarily steer well clear of. I know nothing.
I know what you’re saying and felt the same.
Over time though I’ve started to gain an understanding of top, mid and base notes, how they work, and which ones I like the most. I love lemons, limes, citruses, violet, jasmine, patchouli, herbs, and sandalwood.
I’d love a crack at my own fragrance. Naturally I’d call it ‘Balearic Bliss’ or something like that.
“Compass Point”
Oh yes.
Notes:
Top: Apple (Stretching)
Mid: Peanut Butter (Larry’s)
Base: Sinsemilla
All underpinned by a nice Palm Leaf accord.
Surely it’s to be called “Oh, You Smell Nice”
TP exclusive
“Floaty Banger”, no?
Just won this one in acomp. Pretty interesting powerhouse along the lines of ganymede, not sure if anyone has tried it?

Received a lovely 3 box of 3 x 10ml Creed fragrances from my mother (impeccable taste) last week and it comprises Aventus, Green Irish Tweed and Silver Mountain Water. All are really lovely. I’ve had Aventus and GIT before but never smelled SMW. Very nice!
Brilliant. I’d say they’re the best Creed’s imo.
Royal Water, Royal Oud, and Millisime Imperial are also worth checking.
I got the Alexandria clone of this in a travel size to try it. It’s really nice, and I’ve not used it much and it’s almost developed in the bottle a bit further since I first got it. Can that be right or am I just imagining it?
Spent about three hours in Selfridges the other week, got totally pongboozled, think I like the more citrusy Tom Ford’s, but then went to the Creed counter and left with nothing! Must have smelt like a tarts handbag for the rest of the day.
Then we did Malin and Goetz and Diptyque, I like a few of the M&G’s but compared to the incomparable Diptyque they seem wishy washy and don’t last, and more importantly don’t smell much like what they are supposed to. Diptyque on the other hand is terrific, you can pick out every component with ease.
So ended up with a #34 room spray which cut right through the damp smell in the old gaff when we got home, semi result.
Malin make some decent skincare products - the eucalyptus deodorant is a essential and we sometimes use the facewash and moisturiser. But completely agree on the frags - they are all a bit mid or annoying.
Yes Mrs been trying to get me to use the M&G eucalyptus deodorant for ages. Great stuff.
Yeah. Fragrances still macerate to some degree in the bottle. As the air slowly starts getting to them, they’ll change. Mostly for the better. They seem to become deeper, richer and longer lasting. In my experience at least.
Yeah love the M&G skincare stuff, not so much their fragrances. Performance is abysmal.
Diptyque on the other hand!! Tempo is probably my favourite of theirs along with 34 EDP. Love those bottles too.
That reminds me, one of my work at home essentials is now one of those steam diffusers with Muji fragrance oils (essential since I share an office with a cat now)
