Oooh you smell nice!

Wow, amazing, thank you. Forgot about Armani, used to have that too. Used to have a few Creed too, can’t remember the names.

It’s mostly for work which is sweat box in the Summer, nice to have something off the beaten track too, I’ll try and find the Black Panther, if for nothing else but the name!

Still rocking AdP here too, although I have the black bottle Colonia Essenza. Love it.

Think they might be closed for hols, reopening shortly. It’s worth a sniff!

One of the best classic cologne lines is the charmingly named Institut Tres Bien. It’s a small niche house that I’ve ordered from for years. They are quite cheap (77EU) and very classic in a AdP cologne vein. I have the French and the Russian, but there is an Italian one which may be up your alley as a lover of AdP. If I recall correctly they were made by Pierre Bourdon (Roudnitska’s only student - later did Kouros, Cool Water, so many others). They are classical, relatively inexpensive, and fabulous. And you’re not giving any dosh to Bernard Arnault in the process…

Bit of a Partridge moment on Saturday night when I was asked what’s that your wearing, I stupidly said this hoodie it’s from closer skateboards

I’ve had all three at some point, and they are great. I kept the “a La Russe” version. Something about those white florals. The “Rose de Mai” is a beaut too.

That bottle though…

Which reminded me of this new release too, which is very summery…

any stealth tips on a vetiver-aqua? if such a thing exists? something green and salty for summer

I’ll see if I can list a few things for most budgets.

Elie Saab’s - Vetiver No6 is bright and sparkling. The Vetiver is very prominent. Not particularly salty. Summer appropriate.

The new Jacques Fath - Vetiver Gris is a beaut. Dry, slightly fruity, woody, with a unique hazelnut note. Very nice and very modern. A tiny touch of saltiness to it.

Essential Parfums have two great fragrances out atm too. Bois Imperial and Mon Vetiver. Bois is very woody and grapefruity with a light metallic edge. It’s truly unique and a complete compliment getter if that’s your thing. Mon Vetiver is slightly more classic but sparkling and has a lovely gin accord. Masculine leaning and fresh. Great price point for both too.

The three Encre Noire creations by Lalique are worth checking. The ‘sport’ being lighter, fresher and more summery. The other two are quite rooty and earthy. Cheap as chips as well.

Bella Bellissima - Vetiver Spice is bloody lovely. Bit boozy, spicy and creamy, but not heavy, still wearable in warmer weather. A touch of sweetness about it whilst remaining dry and dusty.

A pricey one which is worth checking is Nishane’s Sultan Vetiver. It’s an absolute beast, but smells damn good. A nice anise accord in there. Masterful perfumery. Not particularly summery though.

Most of these have pretty prominent Vetiver notes, that are complemented by other equally as prominent supporting notes.

Classics like Guerlain Vetiver, Terre D’Hermes, and Tom Ford Grey Vetiver never go out of style imo. Worth checking too.

All very subjective though. I’d def recommend sampling. Vetiver is a complex note, and can smell really different in different fragrances (bright, smoky, earthy, dusty, dry etc).

Hope that’s given you a few to look into.

Edit: A few more I like, which you might want to try.

Masque Milano - Hemingway.

The Different Company - Sel De Vetiver (Grapefruit, Vetiver & Sea Salt).

Jacques Fath - Le Loden (fresh and crisp).

Carven - Vetiver (Nice lemongrass note. Fresh).

Adolfo Dominguez - Agua Fresca Vetiver (Lovely fresh Vetiver and Neroli). A cheapie.

Second the Lalique Encre Noire - fabulous vetiver, great bottle and cheap as chips (hopefully they haven’t reformulated it). My wife and I both wear it.

Guerlain Vetiver is a classic but better for fall/cool weather IMHO. Great scent but more of a classic soapy vibe which some folks may not care for.

Vetiver Extraordinaire from Frederic Malle is fresh, angular, rooty, fabulously clean as well. Wonderful in the summertime. A bit spendy.

L’artisan Parfumeur - Timbuktu - more resiny yet weightless if that makes sense. Lovely all year round.

Perhaps the grandest vetiver for me is Chanel’s Sycomore. Dark, woody, smoky, and very grand. more of a winter frag. Sadly also quite spendy these days - over twice what I paid back in 2009 or so.
