This satanic shit when folks arrive… will fit the black clothing and doom laden vibe of my dead day perfectly:
As the coffin slides behind the curtain at the crematorium- I want people to be left with the fear that I will rise again::
No sadness or nostalgia- guests need to be unnerved and fearful for weeks and months beyond.
I genuinely love that song! It’s actually quite maudlin, which makes it an ideal choice here!
This would be another one for me along side Willie colon. Just as the curtains close.
I love this thread and have given a fair chunk of thought to the tunes I’d want played at my funeral over the years. Really difficult to knock it back to three songs and i think they are pretty much there for two of them
Discovered this off of the Creation “doing it for the kids” comp. Lots of great tracks on there but this has stayed with me as it is deep and a tad melancholy but just so beautiful
Final song for the disco at my wedding. Not enough superlatives and maybe an obvious one
and the third one … not sure yet. Maybe some nice Fleetwood Mac or CSN (Helplessly Hoping)
That Creation comp was ace - wasn’t it like 99p or something? Heidi Berry’s cover of ‘Up in the Air’ is lovely too.
you are right. my copy says something along the lines of “a 15 track compilation for the price of a 7” single". thanks for the tip on the other Heidi Berry track. I will check it out
Here’s a slightly different project - collecting music that connects us to people we’ve lost
(first one is v.balearic When Love, Loss & Disco Balls Combine — Music To Die For)
A really good friend and colleague of mine said goodbye far too young, during Covid. His family couldn’t have the funeral he deserved at the time, so he never got the sendoff he deserved. He chose this tune, which I’d never heard before and it has me in bits every time I hear it. Such a beautiful tune and lyrics. Its moistening my eye even writing about it. F.J. McMahon - Sister, Brother
yeah, it’s about nuclear war, but it’s a beautiful cover and really why not this?
That’s a tough one, I’m sorry to hear it.
Beautiful song and sentiment.
no incineration, just drop me in the ocean, total surrender to the almighty Neptune
The Big Blue
We lost a good friend to cancer recently, far too young. Her funeral was in Geneva last week and this hit hard at the end of the service
I’d like this at my funeral TBH. Never fails to make me smile.
“Please pass me my glass of wine… I feel much better”
