I often think (and talk to my wife about) what I’d want played at my funeral. I’ve been thinking about starting this thread for a while. Then I saw this and it reminded me. https://what3songs.com/
Anyway, hopefully it’s a while away but
Do you go with something you love, a message to the mourners, something to set or lift the mood… or what?
Good mate of mine who passed in 2016 at just 46 went on his way to this, nobody knew he’d chosen it , capped an extremely emotional day beautifully. A very messy time ensued afterwards
My lovely neighbour who died (too young) a few years ago wanted Gorillaz at her funeral.
Cue a crematorium full of people crying while Snoop rapped about being in the bath.
Really quite incongruous but also very her.
This would be on the playlist somewhere. The sentiment is there (not a dry eye in the house), it’s got those weird seagull noises to lighten the mood for a second, and it’s just an all time favorite. Larry Heard - Missing You (Original Version)
I used to joke about getting Deodato ‘also sprach zarathustra’ played but dunno if it would feel massively narcissistic or even insensitive (?!) whilst people were grieving.
more likely, it would be something understated or hauntingly beautiful
The Beatles ‘Because’
Isaac Hayes ‘ike’s mood’
Carl Craig ‘a wonderful life’
John & Beverly Martyn ‘Auntie Aviator’
Blue States ‘Season Song’
Doobie Brothers ‘I cheat the hangman’ (er, or perhaps not…)
Good-bye-eee! by Peter Cook & Dudley Moore (the no pretentious Shakespeare reference edit that I’ll surely make time to do before it) as I’m rolled into the flames
