Everything rated “Poor” condition too. Weird dude.
Very honest
I cant Log In & not getting anyreset emails?
might just be me, but discog’s “collection” API seems super laggy over the last few days.
just complainin’.
They had a warning up a few days ago that certain things were taking longer to be updated than usual. Wantlist and marketplace listings I think were mentioned, but I would wager “Collection” too.
The app is so shit. It seems to crash a bit less but you can’t click on an artist name or label and be taken to their discography now for some reason, so it’s harder to navigate. Must be a bug?
I never use the app. The website does seem to be a bit more buggy than it used to be. For years and years it ‘just worked’
the mobile app is garbage. someone should be ashamed of that UX.
i only use the website, but yes it’s been increasingly wonky and the irrelevant popups that they’ve recently introduced are painful. hadn’t been on the discogs forums in 10 years, had to add my $0.02 about how dumb those popups were.
Have any Discogs sellers had a nasty surprise from the taxman?
From a quick google it looks as though you should declare if you make more than £1000 a year, which I’ve easily surpassed this year. But, er, I’d rather keep quiet unless it’s a real risk…
Quite a lot nuance to it, e.g. “selling personal possesions” vs “trading”, etc.
Gov guidance and a tool to check here:
not yet, but i’m sort of anticipating it. i think there’s a discogs configuration that’s required to either be “personal” or “business” and i haven’t opted in to either yet. hoping that staves everything off for a little while longer.
Im not an Accountant and this is from Discogs NOT HMRC but these are their definitions and its way over a grand a year in income to make the change from hobby to business:
Discogs sellers are required to identify as Business or Hobby sellers*.
- HobbyYou are considered a Hobbyist if you:
- Are not affiliated with any business entity AND
- Selling is not your primary business; you only list items occasionally
- BusinessTypical indications that you are a Business Seller include:
-
Have a physical store where you sell items or otherwise sell through a business entity
-
Regularly sell many items on Discogs
- Example: you have 200 or more discrete sales or transactions resulting in the accumulation of $5,000+ Gross revenue within any continuous 12-month period during the previous 24 months.
-
Buy items specifically to re-sell them here
-
basically - If your selling a lot then you need to buy more records to avoid tax
This is the main reason I gave up selling on Discogs. I couldn’t be arsed having to set myself up as a business in order to sell a record for a tenner and have some numpty complain about the condition.
so basically if you want to sell off your collection which I am hoping/planning to do next year then you are going to be a business ![]()
I really just need to find someone who will take the job lot and die a little bit inside
My brother potentially
I’ve only been selling on Discogs for a few years and probably listed about 500 records in that time. Had a good month last month and made about £300 with minimal effort (I live round the corner from a post office).
I’m woefully naive about tax (always been PAYE) and never even thought about it till my wife mentioned it the other day.
Guess one day I might get a nasty letter from HMRC and they’ll want their cut…
It looks like you could do that amount every month for a year and not really be of interest to HMRC
unless you’re reselling rather than selling your own records, and even then…
Amazing! Thank you for this
I’ll tell my wife ![]()
Looking at what he sells I’m not sure he’d be that interested in my mid to late nineties progressive house ![]()
