Every set I have done on CDJ’s has had the same thought. Not going to say that showing up with headphones in a bag and some USB’s isn’t fantastic for an old man with a bad back.
Has anyone used a Pioneer DJ XDJ-RX3?
I want to get an all in one unit that I can have upstairs for the kids to mess about on when we have bbqs etc. Or any other all in one unit you’d recommend?
lots of features, but they’re expensive for the build. feels way more fisher price than cdjs. dunno if they can stream… which seems to be what the kids do these days:scream:![]()
or if you’re feeling firm, and motivational, you could get a cheapie controller, a raspberry pi and encourage them to mod it to play usb sticks

there’s a few accounts that have put all the driver links in github
Very happy with my Denon Prime 4+
Chances of me modding anything is zero. Just want something right out of the box that I can hand over to them. They’ll probably want to steam now that I think about it but having the whole of the demon hunters soundtrack cut up obnoxiously quickly by a 6 year old sounds like hell. iPad and a Bluetooth speaker it is.
You can figure out streaming with a Laptop no problem.
The Pioneer is fine. If the kids get into it they’ll need to learn the Pioneer equipment ecosystem anyway, might as well start there.
The pioneer flx controllers are good value entry level. Plug and play with a laptop or iPad. Get Beatport streaming on a monthly subscription and you’re good to go.
If you’re going to be using an iPad or Laptop for the streaming options anyway, then you don’t necessarily need an “all-in-one” (implying the ability to play of USB sticks). A controller will do the job, and you can get a used DDJ-800 for a lot less than an RX3 and the build quality is much better.
this could be a middle ground solution in the tablet x tooth speaker collab, before advancing to full physical controller
I (very) occasionally play a few tunes for a mate’s party and use their CDJ’s. I’ve never owned any, just 1210’s always. CDJ’s are so very easy to use and great fun, I did 2hrs on them recently and had so much fun on them I now want a pair. It’ll need to be a 2027 saving campaign but I can see it happening.
written on another similar thread, second hand xdj700s are normally the cheapest way to get link cable enabled usb stick pioneer decks, you’d need a mixer too, but they are really good, it’s what i have alongside my 1210s.
I second this. I bought XDJ700S last year having never done any sort of digital DJing. They are just a scaled back version of the 3000s you tend to use in clubs. Perfect for home use tbh.
Hi Joel and @Kristoph - do these support flac do you know or just wav and aiff? Thanks, in a similar boat in terms of wanting a digital home setup alongside my turntables (and not a laptop based one which I find super tedious currently).
hey, no they don’t support flac, i think only the most modern cdj/xdjs do, and because there’s a lot of cdj’s that don’t support flac (i sometimes play out etc.), i just make sure everything is aiff, or mp3.
i use Free audio converter for macOS, Windows and Linux on my mac to convert files. it’s good and simple and doesn’t have a janky UI.
Literally using one as we speak. It’s really perfect for what I need. Good bang for buck
They are funny with WAVs too tbh. Especially from Bandcamp.
I’ve got an RX3 and really like it. It is pricey but it does do a hell of lot for the money. I picked one up second hand on eBay for about half the RRP.
You can play off USBs or hook up a laptop to use with Rekordbox (or Djay Pro - great for stems). I needed a new mixer for my turntables and thought it would be nice to have a digital option and the RX3 fit the bill. It is a lot of fun and great to learn on.
I convert everything to 16 bit wav.
There’s software floating about online that helps fix WAVs so that they work - as per Pier’s post.
I did not know that this was possible. What software are people using?
