Hopefully Southgate will see the improvement with Mainoo in midfield and Palmer on the right. Much improved passing and movement between them. How Bellingham stayed on the pitch I do not know. He was shocking tonight. Southgate too scared to sub him. Should have had Foden in the middle and Gordon left at the same time Palmer came on. It’s an INCREDIBLY low bar but the team looked better as the match ended. Need a further massive improvement for the Round of 16.

With Foden leaving and Mainoo/Palmer/Gordon impressing, Southgate has had a stroke of luck. He can go to 4-3-3 with Rice, Mainoo, Bellingham in midfield and proper wide players. Cue much improvement and everyone hailing Southgate for “finding” the formula….the one the whole country has been screaming for!
